So are cam gears a must for decent idling with this combo?

Someone should try a 280 in/stock ex combo just to see what will happen - for science.

I like this combo and my mods are similar to yours. Someone posted a soundclip of an Evo with straight 280´s idling, just a couple days ago, and the 280/272 combo sounds about the same at idle. At first I was running them at -3/-3, but that setting only felt good in the upper midrange and on the topend. The +2/0 setting that I am now running, really brings the midrange to life. Sorry no Dyno evidence though.

I dyno'd at -3in -2ex then tried to -2in -2ex and made about 10 more torque and 5 more whp
