Poor gas mileage

I'm gettin really bad gas mileage. I've had my new evo 8 for about three weeks now and i have about 1800 miles on it. I just took a long trip and kept track of the mileage. 17mpg on the e-way. I did smoke one mustang GT but it took me about a mile and a minute. Is that enough to drop my mileage from the supposed 28mpg to 17? The car is also starting to sound kinda rough. I babied it for the first 600 like I was supposed to. I'm so happy with the car I hope it's ok.

The 28MPG figure is if your crusing at a steady 60MPH in 5th. If your running WOT through the gears the car will be getting about 10-12MPG. Your mileage should improve as the drivertrain gets broken in, but with 1800 miles on it you should be around that break-in point now.
Also - oxygenated gas (ethanol and the like) will give you less MPG (and HP) as well so steer clear of that gas if you can.

I've got about 1000 miles on mine. Mileage to and from work (95% highway, 60 miles each way) is right at 24mpg. The window sticker estimated 26 on the highway. If you saw 17mpg on a long steady drive, I'm going to claim something's not right. Do you have access to an OBDII data logger? Would be interesting to see your long term fuel trims and/or O2 sensor signal.

I'm taking it to the service shop for an oil change pretty soon. I'll have em plug it in and see what's going on.

Wow...not bad.

The window sticker estimated 26 on the highway.
Correct. So far, as I stated in an Evo General thread, it appears that if you never break the 4k RPM mark it's quite possible to get 300 miles to the tank or slightly better. That's quite a lot of boring driving though.

1 - 1800miles is nothing on the car. Give it time. Did you change your oil yet? Everything is tight and will require more energy(FUEL) to do the same work(Speed). Good Luck!

2 - Keep your foot out of it and the mileage will increase. Some people are smacks...Grow up and drive like a normal human and you'll find the cars will perform wonderfully.

You know what i been getting 17 mpg on average.. Lots of freeway miles .. at 60-80 mph.. dont' really drive it like a jack ***.. most the time i dont' even push it so the turbo spools up.. Something seems wrong.. Now i have a bov which vents to atmoshpere.. and still getting the same milegage..

Grow up and drive like a normal human? I tried that. Now correct me if I'm wrong but this is like the most powerful four cylinder engine in the U.S. I didn't buy the car because I wanted it to get good gas mileage, I bought it so I could drive fast and kick peoples ***. I would just like it to get somewhat of the gas mileage that mitsu says it will. Oh and if I ever see 2GTSi poking around like grama I'm going to run him off the road.

For a few months I guess. Then, the STi will have it beat. OTOH, I allways thought the Lotus Esprit Turbo was the highest HP four cyclinder ever, but I guess times change.
