car cuts off during WOP
hi all. I just bought an 03 evo with a little over 30K miles. The car has an upgraded garret turbo, (apparently hks cams 272 or 282), 3in exhuast (dp/catback)hks, intake(not sure make), perrin fuel rail, i beleive a greddy oil catch can, greddy bov, and a couple other goodies. I am taking it in to have a third party run a compression check, run dioignostics or whatever to see whats up with everything. I went on a little canyon run to see how she felt and while i was very happy through the twisties, everynow and then boosting in 3rd or 4th it will cutoff and stop accellerating (i noticed the boost guage was at 1.5 bar). it fely like the injectors were reaching thier max cycle or something so i thought that might be the problem. They didnt have a full listof the mods and im in the process of contacting the previous owner to get real list. The "service engine soon" light is on aswell. any ideas of what the problem might be and also a reliable mechanic that can take a peak and see if everything is ship shape. thanks a lot.
You are probably hitting boost or fuel cut.
I'd recommend taking it to RRE (Road Race Engineering) to have it checked out. They are local to you and very reputable.

Definitely boost cut. I had the same problem, does not feel like the rev limiter, much harder.Bring it to some one who does reflashing, and they can remove the boost cut. Good luck.

I take offense to all this WOP talk! lol
I never understood why people call it boost cut though, it's really caused by the ECU seeing the injectors being maxed out and cutting the fuel to the engine for a split second to warn the driver and prevent detonation. I guess because it usually happens when overboosting.

well I think that preventing detonation would be a good thing. if the car is properly tuned, then is it necessary to removethe fuel cut. I think it is beneficial to have something like that, I would rather have that happen then detonate and throw a rod or something.
PS..... WOP = wide open throttle
