Transfercase Fluid....Still Unanswered
Sorry to bump this thread, but how often do we need to change the transfer case oil? According to the evomoto's guide to change the transfer case oil it's 15K for heavy use or 30K for normal use (http://www.evomoto.com/tech_info.php?tPath=2&tech_id=25). However according to the Mitsu Diaqueen product description on the lancer shop (http://www.lancershop.com/customer/p...&cat=15&page=1) the recommended interval is 5K - 7.5K mile. That is a pretty big difference between the numbers. Which one is correct?
I am interested to know this because I am thinking of getting a used evo with somewhere around 18K miles and the owner said that he has never changed the t-case oil yet.
Thanks.

Its because its much easier to tell you noobs to use diaqueen than tell you all the things to look for in the million other gear oils out there.
if you don't have the extra 25 bucks, take a chance. this is the internet, not the end-all be-all. you are dealing with 20000 people who know as much or less than you for the most part.
ill tell you this, the MITSU dealer put the BG stuff in my tranny AND t-case when they did the TSB on my gears. t-case was SHOT in 500 miles. not quite apples to apples, but you see the kind of fire you are playing with.

Mostro: If it was me and I was buying used.....First thing I would do is change all the fluids and filters. Also, you can cut open the oil filter with a hacksaw and see if there are any gremlins inside, too.
Here is what Tuning Technologies put in my car. Diaqueen in the TC, BG Synchroshift in the tranny and Redline in the rear LSD. The only complaint I have is with the BG (unlike many who have god things to say about it). I am underwhelmed with it and my MR tranny. I may try Amsoil Gl-4 next.
I take it that the right number is the 15K/30K for the transfer case then... although I have seen people say they change their t-case fluid every other oil change.
Thanks for the advise sparky. Yeah, I'd probably replace all the fluids soon if the deals comes through. I did ask the seller if there is any whine/noise coming from the t-case or differentials and he said there was none, so...
