now for someone looking to put in .5 overbored pistons, about how much would we be looking at to have the motor pulled and the cylinders honed...???

That is a great deal Eric.

And yes you still need to hone the cylinder so the rings seat correctly. This is especially important with our cars since we use full synthetic Mobil1 which doesn't allow a lot of friction from ring to cyl wall.

Eric, what else is involved besides literally taking the new parts out and putting the new parts in, is it just honing or is it much more involved?

Extreme Motorsports In Maryland is about to do it to my car and I was quoted alittle under $3000 for eagle rods with aries pistions and Extremes double spring valvetrain set up with retainers and all. Not a bad deal I think and Sean has said that they have done this on Evos with no problem as long as the car still has low mileage

My question is are these guys using new rod bearings or re-using the factory ones?

Funny, I live down the street from these guys! I always buy miscellaneous DSM parts them. $3000.00 sounds a little high for the engine work. For $2500.00 I could build an entirely new block (including the price of the new block, crank, rods, and pistons).

You're comparing apples and oranges since you aren't including labor to install the new motor in your $2500 estimate, though $3000 sounds like more than AMS or Buschur would charge for an in-car rod/piston swap, even taking into account the valvetrain upgrade (which I would assume would add about $400 to the total price).

Are you talking about a used block? Where are you getting a new block and crank for that price?

It looks like for $2500, all you'll end up with are a bunch of engine internals. I'm not sure how you think you can build an entire block for $2500 without a core.

You might be able to buy the block and the crank for that, but no way will it pay for bearings, rods, pistons, etc
