Tuning, S-AFC II vs Mail-in flash

Last month I added HKS 272s with AEM gears to my car. We did the tuning with
the SAFC II here are the results https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/sh...d.php?t=185740 . I was very dissapointed with the performance the car was also idling very lumpy with the 272s and sometimes when more vacuum was taken out, the car even stalled. I spoke to Warrtalon and he suggested I sell the SAFC and get a mail in flash for the meantime. I sold the AFC and sent my ECU out for a flash, got it back and WOW, the car feels amazing. It pulls hard all the way through redline and just keeps going in every gear. Huge difference compared to the SAFC. Now as far as the idling goes, the car idles much much better, I would say it is like stock or very little difference to stock. I hope this can help you guys out on which path to go as far as tuning goes.

Taking a quick glance @ your mods and seeing how you tuned a SAFC-II w/o injector's and a fuel pump (to influence timing) is the result of your poor numbers w/ your SAFC-II tune.

Did you get the base $199.99 flash for your mods? Glad your happy

He has a fuel pump, but without injectors, which you shouldn't need to upgrade anyway, there was no way for the SAFC to make good power. That's why I suggested a mail-in Dynoflash for him until he can get custom tuned later. I'd say he definitely got his $200 worth...

good choice, i had a similar experience. safc is very crude compared to a flash, the more hardcore piggybacks like UTEC and standalones.

I think the way the car is running right now, it will definetly run in the 11's@113- 115 and dyno at over 300 on a mustang.

EVOlution561, the problem isn't the SAFC....... It's the tuner.

HAHAHHAHAHAAHA yeah i bet he turned up the boost too, that would automatically take away ALL the timeing. oh well... people don't know these days, who cares.

but as a reference note, if you want a better quality idle it is possible to achieve on the safc, you need to put in the right amount of fuel so that your timing advance is just right, that can improve you idle quality. this is of course easily done with the push of a few buttons on an ecu flash, but you pay 200 bucks every time.

.... crude... yet you have dsm in your name. i really gotta wonder, what is wrong with you guys? flash is steamlined but you pay for it... everytime...

also... you name utec as a hardcore piggyback... it's kinda hardcore in all the bad ways...

also... all piggybacks play the same game, lower fuel, increase timing. mess with cam and crank angle sensor values to affect overall timing. all the same game. with that said... the safc doesn't have provisions to modify your crank and cam angle sensors. why? well think about it... if you guys can't even ****in' figure out how to use it WITH INJECTORS... what makes you think that apexi trusts you with adding timing????????
