That's not good...

I am calling on the knowledgeable EvoM community for some guidance. My Evo is being bad and I don't completely understand why.

I just had the car tuned by DynoFlash (Mail-In Tune) and installed a Walbro 255 fuel pump. Since these upgrades, the car has been experiencing a gradual degredation in performance, which crescendoed into today's ordeal. The car has not been driven too much since the above upgrades, as it was getting fresh paint. When I picked the car up from the shop, I noted the BOV was not performing. Further inspection revealed no boost blowing off from the BOV. It rather sounded like fluttering coming from within the air intake. I drove the car cautiously to work where it sat for 24 hours (I'm a Firefighter/Paramedic). Upon leaving work this morning, the car began shaking as I neared home. My air/fuel went lean and my SES light came on. I limped the car the very short way home, where it now sits. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated before I have it towed to Mitsu where they will likey MF my mods. Whatever help you can provide is greatly appreciated!

Mods:
AEM Short Ram Air Intake
HKS SSQV BOV VTA (Will be changing out right now)
MBC set at 20 PSI
3" TBE with Cat-Delete Pipe
Walbro 255 Fuel Pump
DynoFlash Mail-In tune

Well, if the BOV was acting up, I would try the stock BOV and reset the ECU to see how it does. Was your car tuned for the HKS BOV? Al, likes to know what mods you have before you tune, are you sure you gave him a list of all your mods?

Could it be a IC hose that has came loose? Mine came off at the TB once and fell on it's face. Maybe yours was loose and leaking getting worse and worse till it came off?

Generally when you blow off an intercooler hose, the car will run rich, as the ECU has metered air that is not reaching the engine.

Also, if you have a boost gauge, make sure if you tapped the boost line into the fuel pressure sender or regulator has not popped off. This can cause a lean condition.

I'm not sure, but I know one thing, if you take it to Mitsu for warranty work remove the mod list from your post here! Mitsu reps screwed me over by finding threads on EvoM where I posted mods and ratting me out to the dealer, when infact, the mods were not even related

^ Can they search for our usernames with our full names?

To the guy who started the post, check you under your hood for overspray. Sometimes cars run like crap after sitting in a paint shop for too long.

Thank you so much to everyone who responded to this thread. I truly appreciate all of your time and suggestions. I will check all of these possibilities. As of now, no hoses appear to have come off and everything seems OK...except, of course, for the lean condition and horrible idle.

I'm assuming DynoFlash tuned for a recirc BOV, as Al strongly recommended not running VTA. I followed his advice and just changed the BOV and DC'd the battery, but the condition remains.

Could this be a problem with the new fuel pump? I'm going to pull that next to check it. Thanks again to everyone!

I would check the fuel pump for sure... it sounds like your not getting enought fuel as you say your running lean ... if it was the BOV VTA you would run rich, not so much lean. Did you install the pump your self? If so go through the directions again and make sure every step was done corrrectly. If that dosnt work then you may have a bad pump ...

Thanks for the fuel pump feedback. I did install the pump myself. It was really simple and the directions I had were really thorough. I'm going to check it again right now to see if there's any problem. A bad pump was my next guess. Thanks for everything!

Btw, you can't tune for a BOV anyway, so that's unrelated.

did you install the fuel pump correctly? the fuel pump makes the car run like crap if you forget to install the little oring seal. a lot of people leave it on the old pump

You guys rock. It was in fact the fuel pump. I would have bet my left nut that the O-ring, or grommet, or whatever you want to call it, was on the housing. It's actually no where to be found. I'm completely perplexed as to its whereabouts. I specifically remember checking to make sure it was there before installing the new pump. Oh well. I have a new one on order and should arrive tomorrow. I'll let you know if that wasn't the problem. Thanks again to everyone!
