What cams to go with?

So this is a post for people who know what there talking about. I dont need a bunch of people telling me to go with a certein one cause they "think" its the best ones. I would like to know What cams to go with. I wanted some 280s. But my buddy the shop owner says to go with 264s i think? I have also heard people going with 272s. What is the difference and what do you car brainiacs think?

Most people go with HKS for some reason, personally I would choose comp cams. A set if HKS cams will most likely cost you around $650.00, where the comp cams only cost $443.00 and are almost exactly the same. Comp cams have been in business longer than HKS, and I've been using them in my DSM 4G63's for years. 280's will make your idle very "lopy", but it isn't too bad if you get a flash along with it.

Your post says this thread is for people who know what they are talking about. Let me ask you this, how serious are you about gaining power? If you want a good set of cams they cost between $400-$550 shipped and generally dont require valvetrain upgrades or stud upgrades. If you want killer gains and have the money then go with JUN cams and valvetrain upgrade along with big injectors.

Car brainiacs say search.

The cams you want will change with what upgrades you plan on. Staying on the stock turbo and daily driving? HKS 272's or another brands equivelant will probably work well.

Upgrading the turbo to something like a 35R better start looking into something with big lift like the Jun's or Revolvers.

You want 280's ... are you going to upgrade your turbo anytime in the future? Are you a all out Drag racer topend man? If you said yes to those questions by all mean go for it. I myself have 264in 272ex HKS now . I would like to go straight 272 if I get deal since I have a bigger than stock turbo. BTW you are going to need a good tuner to make those 280 idle. Consider straight 272.

Are you buying your cams straight from JAPAN. The price for HKS cams are not that high. You can get a set for about $500.00 or a used set for about $400.00-$450.00 you just have to shop around.
