Conclusion to blown turbo

https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/sh...ght=blew+turbo

My previous thread above for reference.

I took it up to Alfred at Tuning Technologies and he found the problem. The factory bov was defective and had caused the turbo to overspin.

Also, he said the previous guys had put the apexi mbc in wrong.

He replaced the turbo, put on a different mbc, replaced the bov with an evo 9 bov, and replaced stock fuel pump so it wouldn't run lean. And then he tuned it and set up two different fuel maps for street and track.

And all at a very reasonable price. Those guys are awesome! Anyone in socal should check them out.

Now I can go back to the track! Thanks to everyone that tried to help me figure it out on this forum.

Nick

Hmm, well, I guess we were wrong...the turbo actually WAS busted. I owe an apology to your Mitsu dealer, but I'm glad TT was able to take care of you.

Curious as to how your torque went down and you only gained 12whp on the 100oct. The torque should have been much lower on 91oct with an SAFC and no injectors, but then the torque should have been much HIGHER on 100oct with what I assume included a 3-4psi raise in boost.

It seems weird that your torque went down with 100 octane. Were these 91 and 100 octane maps done on different days?

And yes, Tuning Technologies rules.

from your post it sounded like you were running lean before your corrected every thing. hopefully with the new parts installed there wasnt damage that would become a problem over time.

Warrtalon- I'm not sure, but as you know, I'm an idiot when it comes to this stuff. On the 91 octane I run 22 lbs and then only bump it to 24 lbs on the 100 octane.

But I trust his expertise and he has a 4wheel dyno. I'm just excited not to have a sick car anymore.

Yeah, that's all that really matters is that your car runs well, is safely tuned, and can be enjoyed day-in and day-out. I'm sure there's a reason for the strange 100oct numbers. Can you post the electronic runfiles or at least upload an image of them? With 24psi, you should see a nice big torque spike well over 300, but maybe there was an rpm pickup error that caused the torque curve to blank out at peak boost...who knows, it could be something simple like that. I doubt you actually lost torque when raising boost.

Btw, check out my user title, haha. That's new!

I just noticed the title lol. Good to see you're fixed up. Were there any pictures of the blown up turbo? I just killed one myself :P

TT rocks. Alfred Rules. He worked his magic on my 05. My car made 300 whp and about 296 torque on 91 pump gas. On 100 octane it was 312 whp. Check my signatures.

I think you need to add a hi flo cat to improve your numbers. You do not list it in your mods. You also need bigger injectors with an SAFC to have better control over timing. I think that is what is causing your less than perfect power numbers.

Your next mods should be:
1. A hi flo cat
2. large injectors. Some use 720, others use 660. I say go with the 720.

NJ, why would you suggest a hi-flow cat in place of what he already has? he has a turboback, which means he already has a cat replacement, and likely it's a test pipe. A HFC would make less power.

Injectors would help make more pump gas power, not on race gas, though. Also, you guys should have much higher gains on 100oct than 10-12whp. I would gain 3-4mph going from SAFC on pump gas to SAFC on race gas at the track, which is 30-40whp.

Yeah, sorry guys for lack of clarity on the exhaust--I left the factory cat on there, but there is a down pipe. With not having to pass smog for a few years on an 05, maybe i should replace that with a test pipe? My neighbors already said my car is too loud and the factory cat suppresses some noise too? I guess they really won't like me then.

One old lady complained about it and I told her I would adjust the volume knob down on my exhuast pipe and she seemed satisfied.

Yeah, the stock cat is as quiet it as it gets. Changing to a HFC or test pipe will make it even louder. You should change your sig, because you don't have a turboback - you just have a cat-back and downpipe. Also, you don't run RA-1s daily do you? I hope not, hah.

Depends on the tune and boost pressure. Some people don't go for all out "I live my life a quarter mile at a time" 100 octane tunes. Not saying yours was either Warr. Some people tune their 100 octane tune for beating on the car all day long at the open track, like mine, it still gives a good hp and trq bump though.

What did you set you boost at when you switched to 100 Warr?

I however agree his 100 octane numbers seem a little low and I have no idea whats going on with the torque.

btw, I ran RA1s daily for awhile. They wear well.
