Outdated? If you're going beyond mildly modded, perhaps --- but I think the white rabbit, or TME9, whatever you call it, is a great and stealthy bolt-up mod for those who are going to keep it discreet (provided you get the appropriate tune or flash).

WR is not a TME9. WR is based on a the TME turbo with the 8 compressor housing, you can also get this on a non-TME turbo as it is a comp wheel upgrade. A TME 9, which I only know of one person who has done this...is a TME turbo with the 9 comp housing.

At first the White Rabbit had a bad rep, but now that david Buschur gave it his stamp of approval, it has a good rep. Go figure.

OK, he asked about the WR (White Rabbit). DO NOT get one. I made more on my EVO8 turbo with a hot-side change ($200) than the WR at the last Houston Dyno day. And the car with the WR had more mods than me too.

*** for those that know me, I am talking 93 vs. 93 not 93 vs. 93+meth, I am not dumb like that***

I made 315 on 93 and the WR made only 290'ish. I might be off by + or - 10.

Now, the 20G (EVO 9 stock turbo) and/or the TME (Tommie Makinen -sp?) turbo are better for the money from what I have read. For $1500 I would save for a 3037 or 3071. If your power hungry go big like a gt-35 or 42. I would stay with a 3037/71.

Vishnu V550 is a good stealth kit it that matters to you. That is where I will be in the near future.

This is from the WORKS website:

"The Forced Performance White Rabbit is a true "bolt in" turbocharger for the EVO. This unit utilizes the same weight-saving Titanium Aluminide construction in the turbine wheel and shaft as the TME. The White Rabbit turbocharger also uses the newest "single flapper" revision of the 10.5 housing found only in the '05+ EVOs. The White Rabbit provides an advantage over the stock turbocharger without giving up ANY of the boost response of the stock turbo. Retaining stock like spool up was the first priority for this upgrade. The second priority was to deliver additional airflow capacity so that the characteristic top end drop off of the stock turbo was eliminated. These two design constraints were met while at the same time allowing for high boost operation that significantly improves power over the stock turbo at boost pressures above 22psi . . . . ."

If the above is true, then how much of a difference exists between the 10.5 05 IIIV comp housing, and the 10.5 06 IX comp housing? Is it enough to justify the switch?

I can't find where anybody ever said outdated before you in this thread, do i don't know what your talking about. And every turbo we have talked about thus far is "a great stealthy bolt-up for those who are going to keep it discreet." The white rabbit is just obsolete compared to other new "stealthy bolt-up" turbos. So i guess you can say, yes it is outdated.

KOEvo,

I wasn't actually the one to originally label the WR as "outdated," I was just trying to narrow down the context in which one would feel that the "outdated" descriptor was appropriate to the WR. I do in fact agree with your post -- there are plenty of newer stealth turbo options!

The 20G is NOT the Evo 9 stock turbo. The Evo 9 stock turbo is a 16G with a different compressor housing than earlier 16Gs.

Tuned: (VP 109) 405whp/349 lb-ft

the car also had white rabbit XEDE w/S.M.A.R.T., test pipe, 680cc injectors

Short story... less all the fantasy/fiction.

The WR was a larger compressor wheel in a TME turbo. The compressor was machined to fit the larger wheel. I my case, where I paid attention to detail, the WR was WAY better than the OE turbo (in daily drivability, transient response, and a nice bump in power on top). However, I've seen many, many reasons that contributed to less than stellar results with that turbo (and just OE replacements). Mostly casting off set, and being hap-hazardly installed without match porting or at least "lining the port up before bolting it all together"... and JESUS CHRIST the variance in the OE manifold is crazy!

The 5 blade "20G" is an Evo 9 turbo with the above wheel put in it with some alleged "tweaks"... most likely a good clip on the turbine wheel.

Whether anyone agrees or not with my findings is irrelevant. What is relevant is that the "WR" lives on only in stock with certain vendors... as Forced Performance has quit producing them other than the wheel living on in the 20G-9.
