New TC
New TC
Im having a new TC with LSD from TRE installed and im curious if there is a breakin required.
Im also installing a rebuilt tranny by TRE with a ACT clutch and flywheel...Jon said my tranny did not need to be broken in since it was in preety good shape when he received it but I thought clutches needed to be broken in.....?

600 miles on the clutch keep the rpm's under 4000 till then so that means no boosting. I know thats hard to do but if you dont want your new clutch to go out you must live with it. Once thats up change both oils t/c and trans to get any shaveing that it might have then have fun change your oils every 7000 miles and remeber to use oem fluid for the t/c.

How long does it take to break in? About 5000-8000 miles before the ring & pinion have fully bedded-in. Awfully long but that’s about how long it takes.
I recommend the following procedure for bedding-in a new transfer case:
Keep the vehicle at speeds below 60 mph for the first 100 miles. I would stay off the highway. After driving the first 10-20 miles it is best to stop and let the differential cool down before proceeding. Repeat a few times.
If you take it easy on a new ring & pinion and keep it full of high quality oil, it will last much longer. This means don’t go out there, tach it up and dump the clutch or go road racing until you let the parts wear themselves in. Be easy on the launch, high rpm clutch dumps will fatigue parts and the heat from road racing can take its toll on gears that are new.
Change oil every 5000 miles. If you feel like changing it after the first 500-1000 miles, go right ahead, it certainly won’t hurt.
I recommend the factory oil, Diaqueen LSD Gear Oil, #3775610. However, you should be able to use any sythetic "straight" GL-5 gear oil that is a straight 90 weight or an oil that has an ISO index of 220. Road race cars may use an oil that has a ISO of 280-320 but make sure that you take your time heating the car up with those practice laps to thin the oil out or aeration may occur until the oil warms up.

On second thought, it would still be wise to let the synchros bed themselves. This is similar to bedding it gears or brakes. Take it easy, make sure your clutch is working properly and change the oil after 500 miles. Just follow the instructions included with the transmission.
