Will this damage anything?

Will this damage anything?

I have the HPF lower intercooler pipe, and I've never been able to get it to fit right. I've had it come off twice, and have had to take it off to let the factory rep look at my car to replace my rear end components.

Anyway, I put it back on again this morning, and this is the best fitment I can get of this coupler. Do you think it will damage anything? This is connecting the turbo charge pipe to the lower intercooler pipe.

From the picture, I can't see what you're asking. What's wrong with it?

The only place you should be discussing this is with HPF directly. If it doesn't fit, they would tell you how to make it fit properly. If it still didn't fit, then they'd likely give you a new replacement or fix that one for you.

I have discussed it with HPF. It was designed with one of their 8's, and apparently the turbo charge pipe is different between an 8 and a 9. But they state that it should still fit fine. They have put them on several 9's, with no issues. This was the best fitment of it, and I love the pipe, so was asking if this coupler would become damaged considering that the charge pipe for the turbo and the intercooler pipe are not lining up very well.

Yes, the IX turbo outlet pipe (not sure what charge pipe is) is different, because the IX compressor housing is different. LICPs like the one from AMS fit perfectly, because they don't replace the outlet pipe, but ones like Buschur don't fit, because they provide a replacement outlet pipe.

I can't tell from the picture that anything is not lining up well.

alright.. sorry I had the wrong name for the part. I've heard it called that before, so my mistake.

in the upper right portion of the picture, is what I am concerned about. The IC pipe is about a half inch or so to the right, pulling the coupler over that direction. I'm concerned about it stretching or ripping a hole or something like that.

That may be the right name - I just haven't heard of it in relation to the Evo and am not sure what it means.

Well, I have heard the dealer refer to it as such, and some of my mechanic friends, so I thought that was what it was called.

It makes sense, the turbo is charging the intake system with pressurized air. I've seen many companies refer to the intake pipes for turbos as charge pipes, so that was what I called it. Sorry to have confused anyone.

So you called 2 different things charge pipes? Both the compressor outlet and intake pipe?

Dude, all I said was that I have heard them referred to as such. Regardless, what does it have to do with my initial question? I'm only concerned about making sure that I'm not damaging the coupler, or that it won't cause leaks, etc.

In the left hand side of the picture the coupler looks stretched out, and under a lot of stress. If you have polly motor mounts, or somthing like that to keep the engine from moving around it may be all right, but with the stock mounts that will rip out pretty quickly from engine motion.

PS: I will not ask you for defenitions of parts names

No problem, glad to help.

Also, you can get another coupler (I used reinforced high pressure rubber hose from a hardware store) that is longer and that should relieve the stress so it is not stretched tight on that one side. Make sure and take your old coupler with you when you pick what hose to buy so you get the right inside diameter.

well the problem with that is that this is a coupler that goes from 2 to 2.5 inches. that's part of the reason it looks that way.
