The ultimate HKS272/272 Cam Timing????

Hi crew,

I have been contemplating and searching cam timing data for a while now and trying to decide which cam timing setup would suit me best. I am after the typical good hard hitting spool up chucky midrange and if I was going to lose anything I guess I would accept sacrificing a little top end as you cant have it all.

Primarily want the car setup for street twisty hills runs and Auto X.

The most commont settings I have seen are the Bushur -3/-3, the Silver Surpher -4/-1 and a claim that HKS user -2/+1. These produce the following results. (Please correct my maths if it is wrong) Which of these do you think will best suit my needs????

I know there is some dyno testing to show the Bushur settings seem to spool earlier than the -4/-1 but lose a little on the top end to these settings. I was wondering if the -2/+1, while having the same LSA, might actually shift the power curve a little to the left? (Ie come on earlier...)

All comments greatly appreicated.

I run -2/-2 it provided me with 1k rpm earlier peak torque than 0/0. I lost about 10WHP up top but picked that much up in mid range. If you are an autocrosser you'll want the -2/-2 settings if you are a drag racer you'll want the -4/-1 settings. If you are cheap you shouldn't even get cam gears because in my opinion they really aren't worth it. All they do is move power around a little. You aren't going to see +30WHP by adding cam gears. If someone shows you a dyno graph like this then they have inconsistant variables.

No worries. Already have the cam gears so will use them and try to get whatever benefit they may offer.

Any comments on the -2/+1 setting???
