you will have to remove the TC as well. I am in the middle of doing this process and some other members have said they were able to get the tranny/tranysfer case/engine out all bolted together. I have yet to try this method as it seems very tight. You will need to remove your axles from both front wheel hubs as well. Its a big job for a home mechanic thats for sure.

you can drop the motor out of the bottom on jackstands, just make sure its as high as you can get it.

leave the trans attached.

unbolt the transfer case.... u can remove it when youre done.

use an engine hoist with good quality ratchet straps... so you can adjust the angle on the motor easily....

once its off, we drop it onto a wooden skid with the trans off to the side, and disengage the throwout bearing clip, then remove the trans.

if you put it back together this way, you also lessen the chances of damaging the TOB clip on the clutch, which is common in these cars.

cheers

Check out my engine/tranny/x-fer removal thread for a few pointers. You will need to make a tool for the x-fer output shaft removal, and the wedge collar is a PITA. Good luck.
