Both of my Evo's were the same way. I put in the Buschur Racing shifter bushing kit (underhood) on my IX, it feels like a totally different tranny. No more grinding and easier to shift. You can't beat it for $25.

My 3th gear grinds always even with slow shifting at high or low speeds. My 4th only grinds after about 6-6500 RPM. I had the Trani. taken down, sent out, and had the 3th and 4th gear synchros, spring and hub replaced. Waiting for parts and the process as a whole was really a pain in the A**. It had to be done. Now the car shifts allot smoother with no hint of grind.........Oh, I also tried changing the trani. Fluid, but obviously no results.

Sounds like driving style. Like what Fasail said, 3 syncros at 1/2.

Clutch pedal adjustment -

And I would not use the Pennzoil, it will have to be changed often (every 5k). I recommend either OE fluid or BG Syncoshift I or II (synthetic).

Forgot to say that I too also had my clutch engagement re adjusted pretty much all the way to the top, but the grind still continued .........You pretty much know it's ur syncros when you've done all of the above mentioned ^^^, and still grinding. Sorry ......

I have had my trans rebuilt 4 times... 3 times by one very reputable place and this last time by another VERY reputable place that has been around for years doing DSM/Mitsu trannys. I got a grind in 2nd and its not consistant.... its like the car has a mind of its own. I've got to get to the bottom of this as I have spent thousands of $ trying to fix this issue!!! I'm wondering if my trans is just a lemon and I should just buy a new one at this point!!

People post up if u get the 2nd gear only grind. I can nolift shift 3-4 with NO problems AT ALL. But if i try to get aggressive with 2nd its like playing Russian roulette!!

Oh and BTW I have a Exedy twin disc.. actually my 2nd one....

Ive tried it all.. even down to putting all new hydrualics... a new set of cables and a new cable bracket in the car. It still grinds 2nd id say 3 out of 5 times i shift it?? Its not a real loud audiable harsh grind its very easy and still goes in everytime as i never get block out.. but this CANT be right!! On this last rebuild i checked to see if it ground and it did so i stopped. Got the new cables and bracket, threw them on and shifted it a couple times and it seemd ok. So I thought the problem was solved. Well on my way home last night i thought id give it a shift at 7800 to 2nd gear to see if the problem was actually gone.. and it ground.. I shifted it again to see if it was me and it ground again.... so I got pissed and did it again and it went in like butter with NO grind whatsoever.

People post up if u are having these issues. I really need to get to the bottom of this problem. Even if its buying a new trans.. at this point i have spent so much $ trying to fix it I could have bought a new trans and an AEM to put in the car

seems like im in the same boat as you.... Issue was second was notchy and third had a little grind (worse when shifting fast). Got it rebuilt and it just seems the issue is still there (third seems ALOT better). Put the buschur bushings in it still seems intermitent. This was bone stock about month ago, car has VERY low miles.

Change your fluid......

Although nothing will help if it is a mechanical problem, AMSOIL MTG 75W-90 is helping.. Hundreds of Forum Members are experiencing improved shifts with this fluid. For under $40 for required maintenance, it is worth a try. Sure can't hurt.

I purchased my 06 MR with about 9k miles. 2nd gear grind and slight 3rd gear notch started at about 15k miles. Varying the speed / rpm when shifting has no affect, but it is much worse when cold and gets progressively better once warmed up. Changed all fluids at about 18k miles with OEM...no grind for about 300 miles then it returned. I was looking forward to seeing how many shavings were on the tranny drain plug...but there is no magnet on it??? Drain and fill plugs on tranny are the same but transfer and rear diff have plugs with magnets. Does anyone else with an 06 MR have a tranny plug with a magnet?
Need to fix this grind issue...dare I take it in to satan?

Get rid of the OEM Fluid and put something good in it...

You may still have a slight notchiness when cold, but everything is designed to run at operating temp so you should be taking it easy until then.

i am having somewhat of a similar problem to most of you guys. when i change from 1st to second the gear is real notchy off and on. if i dont apply pressure it feels like the car is pushing me back out to neutral?? this happens at high and low rpm.

5th and 6th gear are also a bit notchy but never got the push-back effect!

i am thinking gearbox fluid? i think GL5 was put in by error....

or could it be worse?
