Are you talking about the Road Race Engineering the company or a Road Race Turbo

I think he means a road racing turbo kit...

Rather than peak horsepower and peak torque, you're looking for the widest possible powerband for road racing... something very peaky isn't useful for auto-X and road racing since your RPMs will likely be all over the place rather than within a peaky power band.

That pretty much rules out most large turbo kits, since they are usually more laggy than the smaller turbos.

I agree you don't want a large HP turbo. You want something reliable that won't create excessive heat. And you want predictable power.

May I ask what type of sanctioned racing you will be doing? Any type of road racing will have some sort of limitation on either HP or weight or whatever so let us know so we can help you.

If this is just for HPDE and you have never driven on a road course before let me be te first to say that the car is more than you can handle stock for the first time out.

I realize alot of people upgrade before going out, but they come from drag racing backgrounds. And what happens is they either crash their car, or learn that their car is way too fast for their skill level.

If you are a skilled driver and need more power for HPDE well then it just depends on how much money you have to burn. There are other things that come before a turbo kit for a road race car in my mind.

Those things would be:

-seat time
-better cooling (radiator/intercooler/piping)
-fuel delivery (fuel pump/injectors)
-baffled oil pan (dry sump would be nice)
-good safety equipment (roll cage/seats/harnesses) All SFI FIA cert of course
-nice gear (suit/helmet/gloves/shoes) remember cheap gear is for cheap bodies
-nice race rubber
-light/strong/cheap race wheels
-nice set of coilovers that are cornerweighted ata custom alignment shop
-race brake pads
-race fluids
-lighter clutch and stronger flywheel

All of these things will make you faster than a turbo kit ever will on a road course. More power is usually not better on a road course unless you already have the above and assuming you are already really fast.

Ok Im runing the Solo 1 season in Puerto Rico, right now I use street tires Falken Azenis RT215 and I love them, I run B Class (based on NASA 2005 rulebook) I have 6 points left and I want to gain additional power and response so I can keep practicing with street tires since next year I will go for A class and run with Toyo RA1 or Nitto NT01.

Right now my car is making 360whp and 340 tq. stock ported 2005 turbo, 272 cams, TurboXS FMIC, IC piping, intake, reflash, Fuel pump,MBC, espelir GT springs, project Mu pads all over, Project Mu discs all over, Motul 600 RFL, etc etc. Yes I have experience, but I want more power since I do some ocassional drag too

I was considering the following:
Turbotix 20g Kit
Ultimate Racing 3071 kit

Those are in the price range Im looking for, the rest are wayyyyyyyyyy expensive like AMS 50trim or 3076, also I will be upgrading my injectors and another reflash for new mods of course

Thanks for your time

My worthless two cents would be to do a larger displacement motor like a 2.3L and a 50 trim or maybe a GT35R. Keep the revs and the boost relatively low, overbuild your fuel and cooling systems as much as reasonable and datalog the heck out of everything.

the 20g kit will get you 30hp max

the 3071 will be too laggy for the power gained

a ball-bearing 50-trim should be pretty damn nice, and maybe a ported head to go with it.

Buschur's got some upcoming improvements to the 20g they offer. You might check those out before you make your decision.

No offense but ive been to a driving school here in the states, and unless your a seasoned proffesional already I would highly reccomend a driving school over even a turbo kit. you will probably see faster times and not hurt drivability at all plus its alot more fun to beat up on more expensive cars with a mostly stock evo

Also, be aware that Road Race Engineering now makes a GT3076 kit with a cast amnifold and 02 housing. It can even fit under a trimed stock heatshield. Check out socalevo.net for more information.

2.3 with a 20g for a tight track
2.3 with 50 trim for big track
2.3 with 35r for really big track

on that note it would prolly make sense to at least visit www.roadraceengineering.com and see what their turbo is like.

i think what you're asking for is an autocross turbo.

it doens't get much better than a stock like turbo, if you pick up a tme9 or a 20g9-5 you should be in good shape. everything else is just gonna spool too slow for autocross unless you have a 2.4 motor.
