10lbs of boost

i bought my 05 in march, got in and enjoyed my brand new evo. i havent gotten the chance to install a boost gauge yet, so i got the stewart warner, hooked it up and went for a spin. i get in 3rd and do a pull, and i maxed out at 10psi.. cruising off throttle is about 20in hg, and at a stop around 16in hg.

this would probably explain why i ran a mid 14 second pass at the track, so my 2 questions are as follows

1) why am i getting wastegate pressure (10psi) instead of the 20 i should be getting

2) does my vac at cruise look ok? im not sure what the norm is.

3) i do believe i installed the gauge right , so i dont think its that

edit*** i was also dynoflashed about a month after i got the car, and i HAD the injen intake uicp, but i switched it back to stock... maybe the bsc lines arent hooked up ?? im pretty sure everything was back to norm, i never had a MBC installed

Usually, this happens when you buy it used, it was previously modded with an MBC, then the previous owner put it back to stock without using the OEM boost lines. But you're saying you bought this brand new 05 in March of 06? You sure it was 100% new? An MBC should solve this, but it's best to know what the real problem is. Seeing base wastegate pressure (11psi) means the boost system is not working, so you're running off the wastegate. This could have been caused during the intake install/uninstall, but only you can know what you changed or moved.

It seems like your vacuum is switched around. It should be 20 at idle and 16 or so cruising.

You could buy the stock lines from mitsu and put it back to the stock config and see if you get normal boost. If everything is ok, then you can happily be on your modding way!

Oh, well duh. You said it was brand new...then of course what I said above about it being previously modded is what happened. Get an MBC or get the OEM boost lines from Mitsubishiparts.net for $14.55.

Silk, they could be backwards, yes. Bret, remove the intake and look at the hoses going to the turbo and wga. The short hose going from the TEE to the WGA nipple should have a red-painted tip.

No, it's not a boost leak, haha. Yeesh...

Bret, when I first put on my Hallman MBC, I switched the lines and subsequently was at nearly max boost instantaneously. Try not to do that!

ok update, i installed the forge, bottom line to the turbo outlet, side of the mbc to the wastegate, clicked the forge a couple times, went to 15psi.. clicked it some more, 15psi.. clicked it some more.. 15psi..

my question is.... the bcs should be fully capped off correct? at the time in only had 1 cap in my possession so i could only cap 1 line out of the 2.. would that make a significant difference if one line was not capped?

I had exactly the same problem you have. My Evo was modded (Of course I didn't know that when I was buying it) and when someone put it back to stock didn't hook the boost lines right. I was getting 10 psi, after installing Hallman PRO MBC I had 16 psi stock. I kept turning it and then somehow I got passed the mark. MBC is not that acurate, so you have to play around with for a while. Hope I just made sense and good luck

Man, I know how you feel. I drove around the same way for 3 months!! I guess that's why a boost gauge is a necessary first mod. Don't you wish you could just turn back time? Go back to the track and run now

Now you know what an Evo is supposed to feel like, Bret. No more 14s for you, buddy...
