Whats wrong with my car?

I have a slight problem. I recently installed a new shortblock in my 03 evo. Today was going to be the day I start it up. Well that didnt happen After very carefully checking every harness and every ground, its time to crank it up. Went to start it and all i get is Cranking. Motor cranks but no fuel. Tested the battery and fuse for the pump which got 12 volts, Then went back to the pump and only got Alittle over 6 volts. The fuel pump only has 17,000 miles on it. If anyone has any helpfull imput, It would be greatly appreciated !!!

First i would check over the things you obviously know you forgot. I would check fuel, spark and make sure all your timing marks are correct. With that said, if you are getting those three things your car should start. Check those three things then let me know how it went and i will help you troubleshoot from there. Good luck.

Did the 6 volt reading happan in the back while the pump was hooked up then?
also what was your meter grounded to for the reading?

unhook the pump see if you have 12 volts or not on the wire..

if yes hook up and check ground using the pump ground...
then check using another ground, if its good with other ground then the ground is faulty.

I would think if the thing is causing that much draw to lower the voltage to six it would blow the fuse. So you probably have a bad ground.

The timing marks have also been checked. Forgot to mention that. I dissconected the harness that goes into the pump and checked those.

I got the SAME scenario when the Mitshubishi dealership (I go to alot) put my stroker motor in. They happened to pinch a blue wire that goes to the CRANK position sensor. (I was there when they started it up, and this happened. turned over, no spark or fuel. it was because of that. they resoldered the wire, and all was FINE!!! I also blew a 15 amp fuse under the dash, it was because said CRANK position sensor wire was pinched in half, by a bolt going in somewhere down there, causing the system to ground out.

Whoever had the car before me, had cut those three wires going to the cranksensor. I repaired those and checked the fuses. Is there any way i could test the crank sensor?

Does anyone know how the crank sensor works? When the key is on i have power to all three wires going to the crank sensor. Is one of those a return from the sensor to the ecu??

I will go look at my earlier post, but the head mechanic seemed to know which "color" the wire it was, before taking the cover off, so maybe that one hangs down more, and is succeptable to getting "pinched" I think it was the blue wire. don't know what it goes to or where, just that was my problem, and yours is probably the same issue, or something with the wiring to the Crank sensor.

The crank and cam sensor have to sync before your car will fire. If they can't sync then your car will never start. What engine management do you have? If your using the aem ems you can watch the startup screen to see if they sync.
