Arc 079

Here's something I don't think we get to see often. As far as I am aware, the ARC sold in the US are the '073 wide' type which is somewhat different from the 079.

Since I just got a 079, thought I'd share some pictues:

Viewed from the front. The 'leading edges' and 'trailing edges' of the tubes are tapered.

Magnified view of the front face. The fins are slightly recessed or if you look at it another way, it's like every other intercooler but with the front faces tapered. As you can probably see, the fins are 1cm recessed from the very front edge.

Magnified view of the back face. The tubess are also tapered on this side. However, the fins are level with the rear-most face.

Wow, that looks really nice! How much did you pay? If you don't mind sharing.

Where the air enters the core, the entrances are tapered also to increase the opening area:

From the outside. Air flows from right to left. You can see the opening of the tube opening outwards.

As the entrance to the tubes taper out they meet and form an edge (rather than a surface 90degrees to the flow). Here's what it looks like looking down the inlet pipe.

Another view. A slightly better view of somthing they've added to the internal fins. I think it's supposed to help heat transfer or create enough head so the air flows through all the channels (?).

On the exit end of the channel, it looks a little more conventional.

Flow from right to left:

Throught the outlet pipe:

Measurements:

Thickness: 2 3/4"
Width: 19 1/2"
Height: 11 3/4"

Probably the same as the stock core.

Excluding shipping, I paid 168,000JPY and asked for it without the ARC logo.

And yes that's a lot of money.
And I'm still on a stock turbo.

Please save all 'you could have gotten brand xyz for $3.00' and 'you won't see any gain with the stock turbo' stuff.

Damn that thing looks sick. Just curious, why the ARC not the HKS. The core of the HKS is bigger (I know bigger isn't always better) but that demension is the same as the Greddy.

Well that thing is still nice, I'll take it anytime.

I have a thing for specialists. I mean ARC only make radiators and intercoolers so I'm hoping they know what they're doing.

HKS intercoolers, IMO, are probably more geared towards upgraded turbos which can overcome slightly more pressure drop across the core and more importantly flows more than the stock ic can cool properly.

Just my opinion. I'm sure they make prefectly good products. Just don't get HKS coilovers!!!

I see what you're saying, and I do agree that ARC does specialized in what they do but I think their oil coolers are outrageously priced.

By the way, does your ARC comes with piping?

it looks like those M073 & M079 represent the core depth. we all know CT9A. anyone wanna take a crack at the rest of the code. i can't read japanese, but that's gotta be it as everything else is custom.
