Info on Gear Oil for EVO IX

I noticed that in the manual, the 9 states that DiaQueen fluid be used, but 75-90, or 80-90 may be used that meets a minimum of a GL-4 rating. (this is on the 5spd model). Is it necessary to put a LSD additive in the gear box since there is a LSD in there? Center Dif, states Mitsubishi fluid ONLY, which is amazing because the center dif on the 8 I had used gear oil like the front, and now it uses automatic tranny fluid for the hydrolics for the ACD? so the cneter dif must be a little differnent than just the addition of ACD. The rear on the 8 used I believe it was 75-90, but the 9 states Mitsubishi LSD fluid ONLY. So is the rear end different than the 8? These things have me puzzled. I think everyone is under the impression that most of the parts are the same, but I am finding out there is more differences than meet the eye. These fluid type changes are either for improved durability, or just flat out different gear related issues. Can anyone shed some light on this?

you should of used lsd oil in the rear diff and t case in your 8 as well. You should use gear oil in the tranny and LSD oil only in the rear diff and t case. I still have the manual from my 8 and it says the same thing as the 9 manual.

My Tranny Fluid Question One More Time...

I am just refering to the manual that came with the car. I don't recall my evo 8 manual (mind you that was 3 yrs ago) said anything about LSD oil specifically. All I remember is that it used either 75-90 or 80-90 throughout the whole drivetrain, minues the engine of coarse. My 9 has stickers plastered all over the housings of the rear dif that says LSD oil ONLY. My 8 never had that. The 8 didn't say to use Diaqueen oil either and the 9 does....and the ACD uses Mits ATF. and the center dif sais use MItsubishi LSD fluid ONLY. So whats the deal? If they are the same as the 8 why the change in fluids? It does say in my user manual, that 75-90 may be used in the tranny in place of Diaqueen , but must be at least a GL4 class...

Here is word for word what my Manual says:

Manual Transaxle: Diaqueen multi gear oil, GL-3, 75-80 or gear oil API classification GL-4, 75-85 or 75-90

Transfer oil: Mitsubishi Limited slip Dif Oil or equivalent

Rear Axle: Mitsubishi Limited slip Dif Oil, or equivalent

ACD: Diamond ATF

So I guess the question really boils down to what is the Equivalent? I am planning on using 75-90 Torco Racing gear oil, I have had very good luck with it in other cars I past owned, including my past Evo. Anyone know what the equivalent for the rest may be?

I am not arguing with you but on my VIII the rear diff said lsd only. The torco is the same weight and should be fine. I have not used torco so I cant say anything about it. Use the same lsd fluid for the rear diff and the t case. I use motul gear oil 300 for the tranny which is 75w-90. and motul gear comp (formally FF) in the t case and rear diff which is synthetic LSD oil.
