Double clutching and clutch spring

A friend of mine said that he never double clucthes when he rev matches his downshifts because it wears out the clutch spring.

His theory on why he doesn't do it is because double clutching wears out the spring just like stepping on the clutch when your stopped at a light. He believe there is only a certain number of time you can step on the clutch before the spring loses tension.

I disagree with him, and think double clutching is okay to do.
