They(mitsubishi) charge me one dollar extra for the crush washer when i buy a filter.I havnt changed the stock one yet as there is no need to unles i see it start to leak. I doubt if thats gonna happen for a while. But if it ever does i have a couple of them in my tool box.

Always change the washer and the reason is to avoid stressing the threads.Less tourque required to tighten the plug and maybe you should be having a talk with your parts supplier. The original washers are very cheap.

When you hit your drain plug with your torque wrench how does the torque wrench know that their is a crush washer in their? Does the crush washer have a little chat with the torque wrench and tell it to click sooner so as to provide less thread loading? What am I not getting here?
