Pics of total destruction...(no 56k)

Well the previous thought of a vaccuum line was not the culprit, turns out the rod just broke from what I can see and deduce.

Yeah those pistons don't look like they leaned out.

Also it looks like valves contacted all the pistons and either broke off or kissed the detents. Are you sure you didn't sieze the oil pump, ripped teeth off the timing belt, timing skipped, hit valves and by this time the rods were pissed due to not having oil under load and one or two broke?

Just a thot, hows the timing belt look? Oil pump spin freely? Just a rod breaking does not equal valves kissing.

when the rod broke and hit the balancer shaft it stopped the shaft and the timing belt kept moving due to the rotational inertia from the cams. it cleaned 1/3 of the teeth off the timing belt, and allowed the timing to get off to the point of valve to piston contact.
