272's vs. 280's

If i am just using the evo as a daily driver and a weekend drag racer is it ok to run the 280's on a stock turbo will it make more power than the 272's with basic upgrades? I do have an turbo upgrade planed in the next couple of months( 10.5 hotside or just whole evo 9 turbo

If you look at track times, all stock turboed evos are very similar regardless of the cams, the trend on the board started with 264/272 then 272/272 then 280/280, which is the best is hard to say, I went with 272s to have a better idle and I wanted a better mid range...

i would personally go with the 272's because i heard that the 280's have a weak bottom end and i dont think you see enough more power up top to make it worth it but thats just me

Not true. With a good tune the difference is barely noticable. Like Ultimate CC said there isnt really that much of a difference between any of them. Cams and a new tune make the Evo a whole different car.

I have 280s in my car and have had them in for over 44,000 miles now.. I've loved them since day one.. I didn't really notice a loss in power at lower RPMs but at around 6k you can really feel them start to pick up and give an extra push.. Honestly though, I doubt there is going to be a whole lot of difference in the two and either will give a noticeable power increase.. my .02c..
