Question Whinning Sound???

Hi guys i am new to the evo only had about 2 month it has TBE, MBC, megan tubular manifold, SS o2 housing, AEM shortram intake, Fuel pump, Upper and Lower intercooler pipes. About 3 weeks ago i notice a whinning noise coming from the from the front so i popped the hood and i sounds like its from around the belts but i dont think its that. I dont think its the tranny or anything like that because when i am sitting in neutral and rev the motor it whinns 2k to like 4500k is where i really hear it. I need some help because it gets annoying when i am driving around, also it seems to get loaded the longer i drive.
thanks for any help

Take it down to the dealership and get the service manager to go for a ride, so that he can hear the whine. They should fix it. It is under warranty isn't it? Or have the other guys at your local Evo meet ride around in it and get their opinion. I know that if I lived closer, I would volunteer as I love riding around in other people's Evos......especially IX's.

Edit: Woops, I noticed that you are located in Lebannon, so you probably don't have local Evo meets. Sorry! Did you purchase your Evo at a Misu dealership in Lebannon?

I know it's under warrenty but they might try to pull some crap about the parts that are on it. I never had it at a track or launched it "NEVER", but i did run it through the gears fast but never went above 7k. So i think the dealer is where i am gonna be headed.
Thanks Lebanon PA, It was bought at york misu

With all those mods i really doubt his warranty is going to be much effective.
Get a proper mechanic to look at it or mitsu themselves if they sell the car they should be able to fix it...

Tell us how it goes..

I get a constant kind of whining sound in mine that reminds me of the "power steering fluid being low" sound. Is this the same thing?

I have a brand new IX with only 2600 miles on it, changed the oil once, but after it warms up and I come in the garage to park I have started hearing a high pitch whining?

I thought it was coming from the engine bay, but as I got closer to the hood with the engine idleing it sounding as if it was coing from the back or underside of my car?

I have no idea if this is normal?

He is probably right. Wait until you put a twin disk clutch in it.....you will hear all knids of crazy noises. The famous hamster running in his wheel, the chattering like skeleton teeth and the famous downshifting howl.

I have a stock 2003 with 40,000 miles (haven't changed the belts yet) and I think I hear the same sound. It started out kind of faint and over the course of 7 months it has very slowly gotten worse. I don't think it is the tranny because the sound is not as loud as most people describe a broken tranny. Plus, I hear the sound when it is in neutral as well as when it is in gear. I don't launch the car or drive it at the track either. I've got an appointment with the Mitsubishi service department tomorrow and if you are interested I can post their diagnosis.

it might be the vibration of the throw out bearing push the clutch in and see if the noise goes away

Same here I have 8000 mile on mine and just changed the oil 3 days ago and I hear it now. If it's in gear on not.
