Swap whole t-case or just LSD?

Well I just bought a '04 RS t-case with the Helical LSD and was wondering if I should swap the t-cases or just take the LSD out and put it in my current t-case? Reason Im asking is Ive heard its very hard to completely remove the t-case from the car without removing the tranny and everything.

My current t-case is in great shape and has about the same miles so I dont think there is any other benefit unless theres a difference between the '03 t-case and the '04 RS ones.

t case is pretty easy to remove you dont have to take out the tranny. There 6 or so bolts to the tcase. Undo those take your raditor out which is like 2-4 bolts then have some one push the motor forward just a little bit and wiggle the t-case out. This is just a breif summary to give you an idea. Look in the "how to section" theres a good write up on how to remove the tcase.

Yeah I read all the How To's about it but I noticed that alot of people, I believe even the EvoMoto How To, said they couldn't get it out even with pushing the motor forward. I just dont want to get halfway through it and find out its stuck

Let me know what you decide I might be interested in your tc. If I had an extra it would make getting an lsd much easier.

Disassembling the tcase in the engine bay doesn't seem like an attractive option. I'd want it on the workbench.

yeah its going to be much eaiser with the tcase out of the car. I just removed mine and it got stuck inbetween the engine and the subframe. I didnt want to drop the subframe so i removed the raditor and pushed the mototr slightly forward while a buddy wiggled the tcase. It poped right out after a few wiggles.

Swap entire cases?! I can't believe what everyone here is suggesting. It is MUCH easier to simply remove the t-case vover, pop out the carrier, open the carrier up and swap the lsd in. Taking the whole t-case out and swapping would be much more time consuming. Just read this how-to. It's really a pretty simple install. No taking the radiator out, no pushing the motor up, etc. I just got done doing the swap by using this how-to:

Well Im either going to swap t-case or swap internals with the stock t-case in the car. It sounds like it would be about the same work either way as long as the t-case came out easy.

broeli-how long did it take you doing it that way? Cant you just swap the whole carrier? Why would you take it apart and swap the LSD's?

he took apart the carrier because he has to reuse it. he only has a new lsd to install, not a hole new t-case you like have. in your case, you can just swap the carier with the lsd.

Yep. It would be a VERY easy swap for you. You don't even have to take the carrier apart. I'd say it would be a two hour job for you. It be way easier than taking out the whole t-case.
Mine was a little more involved because I didn't swap mine out until I destroyed the stock open diff. I ripped all the teeth off my diff which then destroyed the inside of my carrier. I had to source out a new carrier and have my bearings pressed off of my old carrier onto my new one. So mine took a looooong time
