lets talk 2.2 liters

before you post, i'm not interested in 2.0/2.3/2.4 is better thread!

i want to know who is running a 2.2l motor. what kit? what do you think? anything you don't like about it/problems encountered?

i'm looking very hard at the GSC kit that is being released in March and want to get as much info/feedback on 2.2's.

i have the cosworth 2.2l crate motor with cosworth head that i just got done breaking in, so right now it is at the shop getting tuned, during the break in process i definitely felt more torque but until i get it back from the shop i don't know what exactly the differences are. you can actually go to worksevo.com and read a little bit about 2.0, 2.2 and 2.3 cosworth motors.

I run a JUN 2.2l engine with a Cosworth head, JUN Surge Tank, Full Race GT3567R Turbobo kit, JUN 272 Solid Cams, AEM, yada yada yada

http://zevo.se

It's not completly tuned yet, but it's much better bottom end than stock and I can pull it all they way up to 8000, acording to JUN 8600 is safe. We'll see how far I take it next season..

Any questions? Just ask!

I thought 9000rpm was ok with the JUN stroker? Wasn't that one of the selling points? I would imagine even higher with solid lifters. Cosworth told me 8500 was fine for their's, and higher with solid lifters.

Even AMS says 8500 on their 4G64 2.3L, and up to 9100 on their new 23RR motor. I would think with a full JUN bottom end you could go plenty higher than 8000...

To the OP, JUN is really nice, but expensive. Cosworth is over priced, and not worth it. GSC's 2.2 could be an option, but of course there's really no info on it yet. You could contact K1 Technologies and have them custom grind you a crank with a 94mm stroke. Eagle makes a 94mm crank, but I've heard they need A LOT of balancing, and are far from perfect from the factory.

I am running on a JUN all the way engine. JUN 2.2 liter stroker kit, JUN 272 camshaft kit, JUN cam sprocket, JUN valve springs, JUN main studs, JUN head bolts basically JUN all the way for the engine internals. Turbo spools at 3200rpm and it basically is super streetable. I had driven my Evo 5 in heavy traffic (as in stop ang go for 1 meter only) and it drives so perfectly. Power is at 518whp on only 20PSI on pump gas. Its a perfect car for the streets and for circuit funruns. Never dragged my car so dont ask for time slips. And you are correct, my car revs until 9000rpm

Revving any EVO engine 'until 9000rpm' is as easy (and pointless in itself) as putting one's foot on the pedal (rev limiter permitting).

Making power high enough to justify a 9000rpm shift point however is an entirely different story, and that isn't happening with 2.2L and a 3037.

Just FYI.

well the GSC kit is on the forefront of my mind. its going to be VERY affordable compaired to the competition, which makes it a very viable option for those of us who aren't swimming in money like Scrooge MacDuck. (some of the older guys will get that reference)
i guess i should have been more direct with my questions...stacked up against the stock 2.0l, do you notice any excessive oil comsumption? any extra vibration? what do you dislike about the 2.2?

very true, i talked to cosworth before buying my motor and they said this motor could rev to 10k, no problem but the question is are you making power anywhere pass 8500 is the question.

Our soon to be released kit is a little different that everyone elses out there. for one our crank is knife edged and balanced from the start. second, and here is the kicker we are not using stock rod length rods on our kit. we increased the rod ratio so the motor will make more power threw out the upper rpm band not just on the bottom end. our piston size is 86mm not 85.5 like juns.

As far as quality goes our kit has the HIGHEST quality parts in it. from SRS-Carr rod bolts, $65 each to a custom race bearing avalible in a slight under size if you would like for the to be coated. we also include H11 Main bolts.

Pistons are a lightweight with coated piston skirts featuring a dimond coated wrist pin. trust me when i say this kit wont be touched by any others. and at an introdutory cost of $3k it blows them all away.
