act hdss or xtss for 500whp
Reliable expert with no vested interest. I'll trust the recommendation. You don't have to. But to think something as simple as that could cause huge problems later in life; I'd just nip it in the bud.
500+whp, HDSS clutch. holds strong but i think i may be at the limit. i was giving a test drive for 3 guys (4 people total in the car) and did a launch, no clutch slip at all but you could definitely smell it. but then again my clutch has over 40k miles on it with the car modded to 300+ hp the entire time, and 500+hp for the past 6k miles. car gets driven hard often as i give a lot of rides in it, lots of launching, a dozen or so track days, autocross and that other form of "racing" never to be spoken on evom
UPDATE on my ACT XTSS.
My 5th gear shep tranny is grinding now after over 1k miles on the clutch.
and yes it still lock in shifting to high rpm. as i posted above, this is my second ACT with the same problem. very unhappy.

I had 40k on an ACT clutch on my old Evo VIII, I had a it installed before they had more then one option available. The clutch was very reliable, but I did experience lock out at the track, usually past 7000+ rpm. I didn't know you could adjust for it or I would have. My wife and I got so used to the clutch that we where actually disappointed when we bought the IX and had a stock clutch again... it just felt too light.
My only twin disk experience was with Tilton on my 04 STI and it SUCKED for daily driving (amazing at the track) and made so much chatter it was annoying to listen too. I kept getting asked if there was something wrong with my car. I got tired of it and put an ACT in and was happy again. Maybe the Exedy isn't quite so noisy?
I hate clutch chatter, so that really is the only thing that keeps me from buying a twin disk (more then the abrupt engagement on the tilton).
