Alki Injection... If you were to ....

sooo i was thinking about this and i dont really have any idea so thats why im asking . if you were to get a tune for 91 octane (which i already have) , and then ADD alki injection to the car without retuning it. would that actually bring any extra horsepower ... im trying to think of how i can use alki injection to get a few extra horsepower without having my engine blow up if the pump fails or something. i figure in theory it makes sense, if you add alki to a 91 tune, shouldnt horsepower go up, even if boost and timing etc are set for 91 octane?? anyone with knowledge on the subject please chime in ... i like learning about this stuff !!

thanks a lot guys !

Daniel, I think you would, specially on the torque department. Back in Dec 05 I was going to have my Evo 8 MR put on the Dyno and test the following:

car with mods and methanol not working(unplugged)
car with mods and methanol working but no tune
car with mods and methanol working and tune.

Don't ask me why but I just don't want to bring down people and shops that ruined my exceptional project/review. I devoted (4 hours total) of my time to drive from Tucson to Phoenix and another 2.5 hours waiting for the shop to open their dyno(despite the shop schedule was posted in all forums and agree to open at 0900am) just to test what you are asking but due to others I couldn't acomplished that specific desired and long waited test/project.

There were too many witness to back up my statement(slowcar, evo9gril,lklaos and a few others), up to today, it still deeply itches me that I did all I could and others did not. My absolute dedication and integrity totally wasted by a third party.

I would have held exactly the answer of your question.

Carlos

a minute amount of meth sprayed would increase hp slightly in most cases but the typical amount sprayed would cause the car to be very rich and thus a loss of hp...

I wouldn't think you would gain any power by just hooking up alky and not doing anything else like increasing your boost or tuning. Now, if you were to add lets say a 50/50 mix (water/alky), then you would get a little more power as the water would cool the intake charge.

Wouldn't this be the same as adding race gas but not turning up the boost?

Just my 2cts. Please correct me if I'm wrong..

Also, just noticing a couple of posts before mine, wouldn't meth act a little different then alky? I was only referring to alky in my post as he never mentioned meth.

alky and meth both add cooling and increase octane, meth just does a little more of both...

due to the higher latent heat of vaporization of both water and methanol, you will loose power from rich/low AFRs if you do not remove some fuel and maybe detrimental effects such as bore washing.

there is a lot of information on the water alcohol forum

search, read and ask questions

^What he said.

When I had my alky installed I still had to drive to TT for 3 hours to get tuned. First of all even though all of my boost settings were unchanged after the install my boost shot up to 27 psi and my afrs were in the 9s, 10s... Needles to say I took it easy all the way up after testing it our.

Yeah, it freaked me out when it happened. I called the shop I got it installed at and they said they didn't change any settings. I do run the truboost though and maybe with the meth it just spiked for some reason...
