Engine ticking during warm up after cam install??
i installed my cams 264/272hks about a month ago ive noticed that during warmup i hear a ticking noise on my valve cover it doesnt start right away when i crank the engine its just during warm up and once the engine warms up and the oil reaches 60 degrees celsius the ticking goes away this only happens as i repeat during warmup.
when i installed my cams at first i didnt properly bleed the lifters but yesterday i decided to take them out to see which one was damaged i check them and all of them have presurre they wouldnt even move so thats how i knew lifters where in a good shape i bleeded them reinstalled them everything was torque to spec and to my surprise the ticking or tapping noise is still there during warm up????? what could it be?
thanks for the any help.

Perfectly normal.
Any aftermarket cam will tick during initial warmup whe the engine is cold.
It takes a minute or two for the hydraulic lifters to build pressure on a cold engine.
I have only hks 264/264's and they tick for about 2 minutes and then goes away.
Now, if you still have ticking after warmup then you have a problem.
Try bleeding again or you possibly have a bad lifter.

Well ticking during warm up can also be caused by your pistons..
our factory pistons are teflon coated and it shrinks when its cold.. so basicly what happens is while the motor is cold the pistons just rattle around in the cylinders. I didn't know this untill after my engine was apart and seeing the wear on the skirt of my pistons

completely normal....cammed 4G63's are notorious for valvetrain noise. As long as you bled the lifters you have nothing to be worried about...your just being paranoid but thats completely understandable and means you care about your baby

well why is it normal whats the mechanical explanation to it?
ive search and no one has a clear answer to it.
the owners manual says that when a lifter failes it starts to tick inmediatly when you start the engine and this is what confuses me cause this is not my case,
my car does it like 4minutes after it has been runing during warmup not when you inmediatly start it and once my oil temp reaches 70celsius the ticking stops what could it be?

Well, the rpm on cold start is higher and might be masking the noise or just not making it happan until it drops a little, I just installed my comp 280s, bled the lifters, and it ticks a little when its cold.... how loud of a ticking are you talking about here?

nope i dont think the higher rpm would mask it cause when the ticking is present during warmup i accelerate the car and the ticking is still there.

What kind of oil are you using, anyways?
