apexi s-afc II problem

hey,

I just installed my s-afc II last night and did the initial set-up. I have not changed any of the other settings.

my evo is stock at the moment, the mods listed in my sig (catback, mbc, and fuel pump) will be being installed in the next week or so...so i know im gonna have to change the settings again once they go in.

when i was wiring the s-afc II into my ecu, i accidently cut the knock sensor wire completely through rather than just peeling off the coating ....i was able to "fix" it for now, but what ill effects will that have? im assuming ill have inaccurate knock counts, but anythign else?

thanks

You shouldn't have any problems if you reconnected the wire...

Did you use a butt connector or did you solder it?

ha I did the same thing. I soldered mine all up and made sure I taped them up nice and good. Just a quick question tho.. I have the motor out of my car right now and put the SAFC II in while it was out. As long as it is wired up right, should this have any affect on the car starting up for the first time?

Why are you guys using S-AFCs anyway? You shouldn't be touching the wiring if you aren't good at that stuff, and damaging the knock sensor wire could be catastrophic if you didn't solder it. Taping it may work at first, but if it ever comes loose, you could pop the motor due to no knock protection or always run crappy due to artificial knock. Regardless, with EcuFlash being free, and flashes being 300 times superior to an SAFC, there's no reason to be using one.

Fast03evo, before you start up the car after putting the motor in, turn the key to the ON position and be sure to setup the SAFC properly before cranking the car. You have to put it on 4 cylinders and Karman among a few other things that you can find here:

PS. There's an entire S-AFC sub-forum in the tuning area just above this forum.

Thanks and the only reason I am using a SAFC, is because I had one laying around my house.. and then everybody says that they are more expensive because you also have to get a wideband. Well I had one of them laying around to. Plus I have seen plenty of cars tuned very well with safc's and widebands. Including a very good friend of mine with a mid 11's SRT-4. Im not saying it is the best thing out there but for what im doing and sence I had them here. Why not?

Because a flash is still far superior, the software is free, and if you have the wideband, then you can tune it just like you could tune the SAFC. Then, you could sell the SAFC and make money.

So, we have immensely better tuning ability and cash in hand. Why not?

This is what I tell everyone who wants to use an S-AFC as their primary tuning method.... ECUFlash ftw
