HKS DLI Twin Power - fried both Coil Packs?!

Can someone tell me if this is possible.....
HKS DLI Twin Power, the harness fell down b/c shop who installed it never put in any zipties, and got caught in the belt/pulleys below the timing gears/belt, severed the HKS harness, car cut out and died. I smelled the plastic melting immediately. Was able to finally remove the harness from the jammed pulley, disconnected the HKS Twin Power, and the car still did not start.
I immediately thought I flooded it fromtrying to start it, but after leaving it there for a day, still no go. Even recharged the battery cuz it died also trying to start the car.
It cranks.. but no start. Possibly fried BOTH coil packs from the short??? All fuses looked ok. Coil packs didn't smell or look burned. Everything else works (fuel pump, injectors, etc.)
I will try later to see if there is spark coming from either pack, but is this possible that it would kill both packs at the same time?!
Thanks for any input!

My guess is the harness wires broke inside near where it got caught

I've had a DLI II for a while now and have had some issues.

I spoke with HKS about some of these issues. They informed me that even if the DLI II is inoperative, the factory ignition is still operative.

That being said, I imagine having a short similar to yours could cause enough damage to the factory system to render it inoperative.

did you check the fuse in the underhood fuse box. I dont know how its labeled, but I had a car with a problem with the wiring for the dli and it caused the fuse to pop.

Yea, all the fuses were good. I am going to check the coil packs tomorrow. Do you think that if it damaged the coil packs, that my factory ignition harness would be burned as well? I would hate to buy new coil packs and then have to order a new ignition harness as well....

Since I don't know who installed it, I can't "vendor bash". So, if someone botched this install, and call themselves a "shop", they need to be shot in the face!

Figuratively, absolutely not literally!

The DLI is easy to install, you should have done it yourself.
I would look at your coil packs. I had a DLI go out on my car and it made one of my coil packs blister out.

take a screw driver stick it in the end of one of the plug wires hold the INSULATED handle and position the metal rod of the screw driver a inch or less away from bare metal.

Crank the car.

If you see sparks that jump from the screw driver to the metal your coils should be fine.

Sorry to hear about your misfortune.. I'm curious to know what "shop" did this sloppy work.

I have an HKS DLI-2 also, which I installed myself and the overall process took me less than 10 minutes.

SHE'S ALIVE! yea... and coil packs and all are just fine... turns out there was one little 10amp fuse up in the back top left corner (ignition coil) that was hidden behind the fuse/wire for my alky kit. sooooo... now that i look like a complete jackass, everything is fine and the shop is replacing my belt and my harness for the HKS unit.
THANKS everyone for your input

I don't know why the hell anyone would route DLI harness wires to that side of the engine. It is designed to come out of the drivers side of the plug cover. Makes no sense.
