no its not the rear of the car!! the t-case is done. it starts as a small groan in the tc vibrates down the hollow drive shaft then to the rear diff making it sound like its the rear

dumb mitsu replace my rear diff fluid, drive shaft and front diff fluids for free before they decided to void my warrenty and telling me they had no idea what was wrong... ITS THE T-CASE!!

hmmm...interesting. i had the same noise but we determined it was chatter caused by aftermarket diff fluid....switched back to oem and went away. came back 15k later. note: there wasn't much shavings on the drain bolt when the oem diff fluid was replaced, and then after only 30miles of the aftermarket fluid there were big chunks of metal. had to flush several time to get rid of the chatter. check ur drain bolt!

yea it's really hard to diagonse an issue like this over the internet anyway... take it to a dealer or better yet track down someone in your area who has done a lot of evo work. my 2 cents.

A transfer case currently cannot be rebuilt. The ring and pinion gearset in the transfercase is not being sold separately by Mitsu at this time, so the only thing that can be done is to buy a new transfer case, or send it to tre or shep, who will replace your ring and pinion with one they have on hand (taken out of another t-case). It is probably better to just buy a used transfer case and have the ring and pinion cryo'd.

+1 for calling shep. i ordered my tcase on march 19 and it was shipped to me by march 22. i was unable to get a rebuild because my ring and pinion went out so i got the stage 2 tc. i like it very much, its nice to lose that whining noise
