Question about Tilton Clutch.

For those of you driving with the Tilton clutch combo I have a question. I just had this clutch installed and for most purposes it operates smoothly. It rattles some and when I engage the clutch there's a little whistling sound. I might be bothered by the latter, but not as much as this: every now and then when I'm driving at about 75 to 80 mph at around 4000 rpms, there's a strong vibration that kicks in. When I let off the gas for a few seconds, it goes away. I want to know is this normal with this kind of transmission, will it go away after a while, or should I have my installer take a look at it again? Any thoughts is appreciated.

tilton rattles etc... but its just noise and should not be felt as a vibration. If you are feeling a vibration then something must be setup wrong.

Is your check engine light on? That sounds similar to the issues I had with my car when the PO300 would show up. The car would start running properly as soon as I let off the gas for a second.

When i'm on the highway with my Tilton if I let off the gas you can hear everything chattering and I can feel the vibrations.

Funny enough, the EXACT same thing happens to me, only when crusing between 75-85 on the highway, and right after lifting a little bit and then going back into it, it will lock up a little bit, and you have to lift again to get it to work right. The bad thing is, I have a Carbonetics twin disk, so its obviously not the clutch, I dont think its a bad thing though. I think after the slight lift the floating plate might start bouncing back and fourth really fast or something? I really have no clue lol.

my friend has the quarter master twin (very similar to tilton twin cermic) and it does the same exact thing you guys are describing. At around 80mph the car starts vibrating and the engine starts bogging, than after he presses the pedal and revs it up a bit it goes away . I told him the super light flywheel might be the blame for this, it is too light and the engine doesn't cruise as good when it had the heavy (oem) flywheel in.

^ Yeah, there are certain MPH's that the car just runs better/smoother at for some reason.

I think that might explain it.

Most clutchs without sprung hubs will make the drive train chaug (rattle) on decel.

I agree. It is most likely related to the solid hub discs. Sprung hubs are used to absorb harmonics/vibrations.

Welp, I guess that explains it. Sometimes it's annoying, but I've pushed it with the vibrations and the only thing is that the vibrations get a little more annoying, but as long as the tranny doesn't fall out while I'm doing 80mph I can live w/ the vibrations.

It's funny how different cars respond to upgraded trannies. My Type R accepted the clutch and tranny with no rattles and vibrations.
