Break in period for cams ?

I'm getting my cams finally installed tomorrow! I have two questions though:
1) Do cams (272's) require a break in period ? If so, how long?
2) Is it safe to run 272's on stock springs/retainers?

thnx for the help

it depends on what 272's you are talking about, the jun 272's require valve springs and retainers, the hks cams do not

lol, easy as that. i'd caution you against pushing the car into high rpm's until you are tuned for the cams. enjoy.

On the L6 motors it was recommended to fast idle(3K rpm) the car for 15 minutes to break in the cams. Let cool and then check clearances.

cams are in and the car feels great! hugh (ballistic speed) did a great job. not too much of a lump, almost sounds stock. couple ?'s tho

1) how high rpm should i be shifting at with these cams and stock valvetrain?
2) are 272's with stock valvetrain reliable? should i worry about slapping a valve to piston ?

i usually shift at 7700ish. but with my clutch not adjusted i'm shifting at 6800. thnx
