broken axel?help?

i dunno what happen but yesterday night i drove my car down the drive way and had to turn the steering wheel so that i can clear my steep drive way!!!...well i heard a loud clunking noise and i noticed it hasn't done that before!!! so i tried to duplicate the same noise again, which to my suprise it did it again!!!...now its just worst...it happens alot when im turning a u turn or turning the steering wheel and on bumpy roads and it feels like the the wheel collapsed...it sounds like a loud locking noise coming from the front drivers side...i dunno what it could be but i think it could be the tc...
--i honestly think its something to do with the driveline!
--the tc is not howling or anything abnormal
--suspension seems to be good no busted joints or bushings
--i would like to confirm if a the center diff is on its way out would it still make a noise going strait and effect the steering wheel?

please help because a tc can be expensive and from the stories you all told dealerships can be a A$$!!!

could also be a cv joint, which would be better than a diff. Does it do it on right and left turns, or just one direction only?

The shift key is your friend at the start of each sentence.

The exclamation point hates you.

It's more than likely a constant velocity joint going bad. How many miles do you have on the car? What kind of condition are your front driveshaft boots in? When was the last time you added grease to your CV joint boots?

the noise is really bad when turning far left and far right and turning the steering back to a strait position...the steering wheel is affected by the popping and clunking noise...i checked all suspension componets on the front driverside but everything is ok...the boots are fine but i've had times in my old integra where i busted the bearings inside but the boots where fine...this could be a possbility!!!

--the night before the incident i went to the sac. raceway and only got 1 run which sucked but everything was ok when i drove it home...looks like i have to check the axel..

--any other ideas or experiences could help!!!

Agreed. Your boots might be fine but the joints inside still be damaged. That's why I asked how many miles you had on the car and when the last time you greased your CV joints.

I have the same issue. My friend who is a mechanic told me that it might be the axle. The car does everything that you have listed. I am going to replace the axle sometime with in the next two weeks. What can happen if I keep drving on the bad axle?

CV Joint. That would be my guess. Also, you might want to go ahead and get ready to change your timing belt and balance shaft belt.

Well im pulling out the axel today so we'll see what the problem is...i doubt its the tc now since i've been talking to others who have had problems with there diffs going out on them...but like i said it only happens when turning to avoid a huge dip and forcing me to turn the steering wheel all the way...i'll let you guys know

90gsx...what are the intervals for timing belts/water pump?...should i go ahead and have the headstuds replaced too?

Well just pulled out the axle and it seems that the axle is fine...no play and does what its suppost to do...i did notice that when i was rotating the wheel i did notice that the axle's were not rotating smoothly and it would skip during rotation...from my research of tc...the center diff is on its way out!!!!...ahh looks like warranty work for me....

i have a vibration/clunking/creaky noise which i thought was my DP hitting the cross braces. i added spacers and its no longer that, nor the suspension.
my shop checked it out and showed me the left side axle compared to the passenger side has a little bit of play. i felt it slightly when i put my hand around it.

its usually clunky/creaky when i start into first gear, but even when im at a dead stop sometimes or even upon starting the engine. would the axle have that effect?
