difficult to shift

I just picked up my car from the shop after adding the following:

ACT cluch
Prolite flywheel with an
SS clutch line. I also installed the
4 piece Kartboy shifter base bushings
speedsource 6 speed underhood bushings

While i love the feel of the shifts now at low speeds (still can't beat on the new clutch), first and second gear have become very difficult to engage. It has become extremely difficult to shift. Note that 3/4/5/6 gears are fine. It feels as sticky and mushy if that helps.

car is an 06 gsr 6 speed (JDM). problem was not there before the installation of the listed items. I'm wondering if someone can help me out. I'd go back to him, but i want to diagnose the problem so we know what to look for ..

thanks

Yeah, it probably is the change to the different oil, due to it having distinct fluid properties when cold, than the OEM fill.

the same thing happened to me once, it was actually the underhood shifter bushings. They need to be greased/lubed otherwise they start to seize. hope that helps!

I went out to the garage and checked the owner´s manual of my RS. The factory recommended oil for the manual transmission is both 75W-85, and 75W-90 GL-4. So, either one should work fine.

You should NOT be using anything other than OEM fluid on your 6spd. It should only have OEM Mitsu Super DiaQueen 75w-85, not anything from Castrol. However, I am not sure this would cause 1/2 to be so mushy. Did your SpeedSource bushings fit properly? Someone else just got those, and they did not fit as advertised.

Sparky, you have a 6spd in your 04?

Warrtalon.

I'm taking it to the dealer tomorrow to have all the fluids flushed. The speedsourse actually did fit well. What didn't was the 4piece Kartboy shifter base bushings! the bushing was 1mm too big to fit on the shifter base. The shop modified the shifter base by just making the hole a little bigger.

overall impressions after shifter base, underhood and front engine mount bushings..the car is totally different. it feels like i have a short shifter. The engine mount however i don't recommend for people who don't like too much vibrations. It vibrates A LOT when the A.C. is on. i dont mind though

use stock oem fluid iam using diaqueen 75w-85 and it works much better then the motul and the bgII syncroshift also when using the bgII i had a lot of metal in the magnetic drain plug yes i missshifted several times but with that oil is it was kind of abnormal to see some small metalic pieces on the drain plug so know i use the oem stuff and it works much better even when its cold

adjusted my clutch pedal higher. it's just the damn stiffness of 1st and 2nd gear! could be like someone mentioned that the underhood bushings were not greased enough

I hadn´t noticed that the guy´s car in the original post is a 6-spd., while my RS is a 5-spd., so I advised the incorrect oil. So Sorry!

Incidentally Warr, my car has the JDM close ratio 5-spd. This box has different forward ratios than the U.S.D.M. 5-spd. Fifth gear is direct (1:1), 1st is longer than in the US 5-spd., and 2nd through 4th gears are closer spaced. Upon downshifts the tach only jumps 200 RPM. And on upshifts the motor only drops 200 RPM.

The USDM IX 5spd is very short-ratio, too, compared to the USDM VIII.
