this morning i was driving at around 65 and all of a sudden my exhaust starts making crackling noises like a machine gun...all i have is a catback...i didnt notice any rubbing when i looked under the car...could it be a leak??

 

Catback with no other mods?

What gear were you in or what RPM were you at?

Does it do it now or did it continue to do it when you came to a stop?

 

and boost controller set at 19

happens in 4th and 5th

would start crackling at 40-65 at like 3-4k

would stop making noise when i come to a stop

 

Are you losing power? Does it sound like a misfire?

 

im not losing any power at all

im not sure what a misfire sounds like....it does sound like there is no exhaust though

 

edit, piping not installed properly

 

if the 02 sensor is messed, wouldnt the cel come on?? my light doesnt come up

im afraid it could be a leak...im about to go to my cousins shop soon but in the meantime does anyone have any suggestions as to what might be wrong?

exhaust leak you would hear at any speed and at idle

 

then it is an exhaust leak

 

get under the car and start holding your hand around all the exhaust pipe work and feel for the puff of exhaust coming out, if so then its leaking, something isn't bolted right

 

btw i have the jun bl catback...is anyone else having problems with their clamps?

 

Agreed. I think this is an exhaust leak as well. Especially if it happens EVERY time you hit that speed / RPM. It's either that or a heat shield rattling because of vibrations at taht particular speed / RPM.


How long has it been on the car?

its only been on for like 2 weeks now
i used the rubber hangers that were already on the car

 

Is the sound a rattling or a pop?

 

cant really tell if the two sounds are distinct....its pretty much both like at the same time
