Which more hp mods would be the next in a evo ix?

Hi guys:

I read your forum since the last year... I have a JDM Evo ix, and this are my list mods:

255 LPH Walbro pump
272 exh HKS cam
280 int TT cam
APR head studs
OBX fuel rail
Turbo Smart dual port BOV
Injen intake and upper pipe
Custom Licp
Hallmann MBC
680 Buschur injectors
Turbo XS turbo manifold
Jestr ecu tuning
Underdrive crank pulley

With this mods and gas pump with 24 psi I made 12.55 the 1/4 mile... is that a good time? I have 18" kuhmo ecst tires 235/40

What else I can do... a turbo? but which one? a 50 trim or a gt30... s? I dont want to expend more than $2.500..., I prefer to buy a turbo alone not a kit, because the price and I already have a lot of parts for it.

Thanks for your help...

First off, decide what your end goals (or at least within the future goals) with the car. Once you decide, then you can choose what turbo is best suited to your goals.

With the choices listed above, sounds like your wanting near stock spool, and big gains up top. Either or would be a good choice (although I would personally go with the 50 trim based on various threads Ive read) for extra umph up top and somewhat stock spool. Another turbo thats flying off the shelves is the 20G Green.

Also, before everyone straight lopps off your head, do a search. There is more than plenty of info on all those options listed.

for a ix and all those mods 12.55 is pretty slow. Few people with just open downpipe, mbc, tune have hit low 12s or even high 11s. Friend of mine with open dp,mbc, tune, meth 50/50 hit 11.5 I believe. What does the 60' look like???? got the sheet?

If I were you, I'd first take the following parts off of your car and put the stock pieces back on. I don't believe these are helping you at all, and could in fact be hurting you:
  • 272 exh HKS cam
  • 280 int TT cam
  • OBX fuel rail
  • Turbo Smart dual port BOV
  • Injen intake and upper pipe
  • Turbo XS turbo manifold
  • Underdrive crank pulley

As for improvements to your setup, the Cosworth and GSC cams have been proven to make power on the IX. A common less-expensive mod would be an O2 housing replacement. In terms of turbos, I'm partial to the FPGreen. Good luck with whichever route you choose.

Oks, here a the complete results:

12.55 secs 108 mph
0-60' 1.817
1/8m 8.052 secs 87.70 mph
1000' 10.48 sec
60mph 3.94 sec

I am also thinking that maybe the intake cam is hurting my hp and time

+1.
I'm in all agreement with this! I'd especially get those Intake cam outta there!

As for those people flaming your low times as compared to other IX's... for 24psi; that's not too shabby. It's not great, but not shabby. Those times people are quoting are mostly on meth/racegas and pushing a ton of boost.

If you're only wanting to spend $2500; I can't suggest a turbo kit for ya. A 50trim would be your pump alternative. If you wanted, you could run meth with it to get more. Else do a GT30 (3071/3076) setup if you're not going to run straight pump.

I agree with Pd1

(Couple of corrections, seems hks has an exhaust cam for the 9)
If that TT intake cam stands for Turbo Trix, DEFINATELY remove them. They are just reground factory cams and they tend to suck.

The only good cams currently available for the 9 are GSC and Cosworth 272/272. I like the Cosworths myself.

Fuel rail, eh probably isn't hurting anything.
The bov is junk, put your stock one back on.
I wouldn't worry about the intake if you have been tuned for it. If you haven't, remove it.
The underdrive pully is fairly useless.

Also what was the weather like, humidity? Last I heard Ecuador was a hot and humid place and that can effect your times.

I'd also recommend getting a meth kit, and since your in the tropics a really good (not ebay junk) FMIC to cool off your intake charge.

One other thing, the Kumho's your running might be a small part of your problem. They are great street tires, not the best on the track. I've had them on 2 different cars, and while I thought they were great on the street for the money it wouldn't surprise me if they cost you .2 on the quarter.

Unless you are running big boost with an alky/meth kit or larger turbo there is no reason to get rid of the stock 9 BOV sell that useless BOV on your car and put the stocker back on.
