Usually all you get is a shortblock. Then all the pumps, pan, pulleys, covers etc still have to be installed. I would beleive 8K Isnt that far off becuase of cost of New parts. Blolcks and cranks arnt abundit for Evos atleast lot in America

$8K seems a bit ridiculous for an actual DSM 4G63. Many people do complete build ups using new parts and they don't pay anywhere close to that amount. A close friend recently built a 1G 6 bolt for 4k using his current block and head as cores.

I can see that being accurate using a "new" block and head (usually remanufactured anyway) but not for a complete rebuild using new accessories.

I called and asked about buying a pre-built 2.3 stroker and they told me they had one (or two?) short blocks ready to go. All I had to do was return my core with pump, squirters, rotating assembly etc. to them and I'd get a core refund.

AMS does the same thing.

Yeah but its still only a short block. Not a Long block like the guy is asking about. Ready to drop in.

I understand that...but it's not hard to swap a head from one block to another, especially when both blocks are out of the car. Why waste money on parts that you already have and are good to go?

Very true and how hard is it put on a water pump, oil pump+filter housing, and timing belt with that head on an engine stand, very easy. Ive done it several times. I wouldnt ever buy a built block from anybody and I dont care who built it if i couldnt drive to pick it up. I have a machine shop that does all the bottem ends and i do the rest. If you can read a manuel will tell you everything you need to know. I would vote for a good machine shop in reasonable distance. IF not I would have to chose a one from BR

I picked up a long block from Buschur - I dropped off my bottom end core and head. I had the head cleaned up (springs/valves/retainers) and installed on the 2.3 shortblock. They installed new oil/water pumps and new timing belt / tensioner so the motor was ready to bolt into the car when i got it back to the shop where I was working on the car. I can see where you could save some money putting the head back on the motor and all the rest BUT - if you have the shop that built the head/bottom put everything together you have the piece of mind that it was done right and if anything happens with the motor after its installed its very unlikely it was anything you did wrong. When it comes to something like this, is it really worth saving ~500$ ?

Big to Buschur for getting my pile running this year
