2nd gear lock out.

I can't get into 2nd gear recently. I have adjusted the clutch pedal and it hasn't helped.

I pretty much think I've ruled out the clutch though, because even with the car off it won't go into 2nd. If it was the syncros going out, wouldn't you think it'd grind? Mine never started grinding.

Anyone got any ideas? I'm starting to worry that it might be a bent shift fork, and I might have to hit up Shep for a rebuilt tranny.

Also my reverse has starting acting up. I sometimes can't get it into gear, and it'll grind. I've been doing what some members here said and put it into a forward gear before the reverse. That's been working better, but I never had to do that until recently. I shouldn't have to do that...I never did when the car was newer.

I've adjusted the clutch pedal to nearly the last thread. I don't think that's the problem. Why would I be able to get into all the other forward gears fine except 2nd? wouldn't a bad clutch adjustment be for ALL the gears?

Plus with the car off it will not go into second. All the other gears go in fine, even without the clutch. 2nd...not so much.

And no, I have not installed new bushings nor a short shifter.

Shift fork or synchros is most likely your problem.

If it was syncros, wouldn't it have been grinding before it decided to take a sh*t?

I'll have to add that it's not 100% locked out of the time, but about 80%. Every once in a while it decides it wants to go in.

my friend has the same problem to his car... but he took that transmission out and sent it out to shep racing.

www.sheptrans.com is his website.

my friends 2nd gear hasnt been going in for a while... its on and off.. sometimes it goes in sometimes it doesnt... theres no grinding too.. so i guess its not the shift fork.. its prolly the shift fork.

we'll see how it will turn out after he gets his tranny back from shep.

If it's a lock-out 80% of the time then I would assume it's the shift fork. Send that tranny to Shep!! you're better off going that route anyway.

It was the shift fork and the syncro.

TRE made sure I didn't have that problem anymore, and I've not had a problem with that tranny since. Damn, I can't believe it's already been 4.5 years...lol
