Here's a good look at the megan header when it gets hot:

I will be porting my stock header and sending it out for coating in the next couple of weeks.

HOLY CRAP!! It looks like an intestine! LOL. Can you ceramic coat these to prevent this? Is this a good indication it will crack from all that heat?

They do glow and most of them wind up cracking in time

I prefer a cast manifold on a street car

These must all crack, including the Formula1 headers

If you will notice NONE of those set ups have a turbo and a entire exhuast system hanging on the end of them

Evos have a lot of weight bouncing on the end of the manifold all of which creates stress and vibration when the car goes over bumps

Also - when a car is driven daily (as upposed to a race car) it goes through many heat cycles which weakens the metal

The bottom line is most cheap stock replacement headers which are made from thin gauge stainless are GOING to crack - its just a question of when

A piece like the Full Race, AMS or Shearer made from 8 gauge material will last a long time

Check out the WRC Greece review on EuroSport. They have some live camera footage of the headers on Solberg's Suby during a run. They were white hot.

That's what 321 was invented for, and if you can't afford 321 but you can afford a heavier manifold, use 304L sch 10 tubing

Any manifold, cast, tube or whatever will crack if its not supported properly, a good well designed manifold made from 304, or schedule 10 304 will hold up fine to tons of abuse.

those that crack tend not to have the support of the O2 housing bracket. The turbo/exhaust system is a lot of weight for a thin walled mani to handle ~@900C
