EWG for stock turbo?

so im not doing a smooth transition from stock turbo to 40R...im just jumping from one to the other. i dont have everything together yet for the 40r though, so my issue right now is: with a stroked out motor and ported/1mm oversized head all around; do i externally wastegate my stock turbo? my friend and i were talking about possibly welding the internal flapper closed on the 10.5 hotside and putting on a turbosmart 48mm i have in storage just to be safe.

has anyone else put an EWG on thier stock turbo evo?

no not nessary. What make makes you think that you have to EWG your stock turbo I would love to here why you think it has to be done. There are a few people on here running strokers with build heads and stockish turbos.

its not stockish...it is stock. (turbo)

but ill be running the 2.4l with a ported head w/1mm oversized all around...so alot more air moving through and im convinced its going to be a smoother ride if im not overloading that tiny little flapper on the inside of the hotside. but by all means lets hear your debate for this.

well, one reason for doing it is the same as the stock turbo sti's...better control of boost levels, help hold out boost longer and also helps keep from killing the turbo by flowing too much...I wonder if the stock flappers wouldn't flow enough and could actually cause boost creep as well...
Built head, bigger cams, a 2.4 and 8k'ish redline...I know the powerband will be done long before then though...
this setup will definately be like a racing a diesel...shift at 5k
