Yaw control?
Yaw control?
I was wondering about the Active Yaw Control that the Evo VII's got.
Why wasn't the yaw control available in the evo VIII?
Am i able to get it installed onto my Evo?
And if it is able to be installed, would it be worth the trouble?
sorry if someone had already asked these questions, i couldn't find the thread.
please answer my questions, Thanks

Okay I found a previous thread about installing AYC and ACD stuff on US evos.

It wasn't installed in the US Spec of the EVO 8 because of the strict emissions control in the US. The parts needed to restrict the amout of pollutants released into the atmosphere were recquired in the area where the AYC and the ACD would have gone.
I don't think you can install it because as of now
says the evaporate canister is in the way of the ACD controller due to U.S. emissions. And the current AYC works with ACD so I don't know if you pull a AYC from an evo 6 would do the job?
I feel it was cost that left behind the front LSD, center ACD, and optional rear AYC. Just keep in mind that if you do have AYC electronical diff you need to change the gear oil every other engine oil change

Actually the real reason it wasn't brought over here is A: the cost of these electronics would have set them over their initial base price, and B: the a tech support for this stuff isn't available.
Mitsu tried hard to make this car affordable, under $30,000. If you ask me it was a hella stupid Idea, but they really weren't sure if the USA market would go for such a car. The cost of the electronics themselves are well into the thousands my guess for equipt only as being options would be around $2000-$3000. The emissions coponents can be moved it's not liek the car was designed with those in mind anyways...
Not to mention the service mechanics in the US aren't exactly your rocket scientists. The amount of cost it would have taken MMC to train US employees to repair and maintain such high tech electronics wouldn't have been a good investment, atleast not for an initial launch. The ACD and YAW are ectremely complicated when broken down and all ran by computers.
I'm sure if the EVO sales continue mitsu will be making it an option for the future evo's, if they don't they are digging themselves another hole. Sti has a DCCD why shouldn't the EVO have one?.... Plus YAW controller= hand break usuage hehe

Can I just say: 130km/h around tight corners with no traction loss makes AYC/ACD/Front diff definitely worth it? It certainly put a huge grin on my face.
Though you're right, no advantage on the street. Only on the track.

depends on the kind of street driving or track driving you do. !/4 mile racing it is almost worthless, only helpful item would be routing power 35/65. On a circuit or autocross track major advantage, Handbrake corners come into play
If you drive like a nutt on the street it will make your driving much funner, if you drive like my grandpa on the street, uh ya you wasted your money... lol

If you guys are interested to know the Best Motoring opinion about JDM Evos:
They reckon the best thing ever about the evo vii and viii is the AYC. This is all from a track perspective. The biggest improvement from the 7 to the evo 8 is the super AYC. The latest best motoring even shows how a More powerful non-AYC Advan evo lost to a less powerful AYC Puma evo on the track by like a mile... (the puma started later and kicked the advan by a mile). Personally, my opinion drving the JDM EVo VIII is that like what most of u say, you would utilise it more on the track. But i always believe something, U never use an airbag everyday, but when u do..... U REALLI NEED IT to work.. cos it will save your life.. once or twice i have found myself trying to push too hard on normal roads, thats when u realise the AYC, ACD diffs, stabilizer bars etc are the only thing skeeping your senseless hothead from becoming one with the scenary and horizon. On the track, it realli realli works very well. I can attest to that. On the road, it can make u look like a hero and it might even save your life.
