EVO 8 and EVO 9 gearing....

Don't tell me to search cause I did and all I got was a blank white screen.

I wasn't aware of the gearing change until I seen someone mention it on here. Whats the difference between the two if you guys don't mind answering? After running my car around lastnight, it seems that 5th gear is shorter and it seems to go to only 110mph.

Can someone tell me what the 8's and 9'd do in 4th gear and why the gear change in the 9's?

Thanks.

Ohh btw its only the 1st and 2nd gears that are different. Evo9 has shorter gears in those 2
and 4th not sure about 3rd but it would make sense. 5th is the better gear in the 9 than the 8

I found this post some time ago...

03-05 EVO 5 Speed Ratios

1st : 2.928

2nd: 1.950

3rd : 1.407

4th : 1.031

5th : 0.720

Final : 4.529

06 EVO 5 Speed Ratios

1st : 2.785 (higher)

2nd: 1.950 (same)

3rd : 1.444 (lower)

4th : 1.096 (lower)

5th : 0.761 (lower)

Final : 4.529 (same)

Does it buzz more RPM's at cruise on the highway?
Is the acceration in 1st gear worse?
Do you feel any benefit with the lower ratios in 3-5?

TIA!

Sorry, but NO WAY this is correct. I've owned both. 3rd, 4th, and 5th are shorter in the E9.

I recently had my Evo 9 - 5spd tranny built by Daniel at Buschur Racing. I had him install the Evo 8 fourth gear to help with my trap speeds.

Evo 9 - 4th gear 118mph @ 8000 rpm (Before tranny rebuild - Stock OEM tranny)

Evo 8 - 4th gear 128 mph @ 8000 rpm (After rebuild)

Your search obviously didn't get you the right answer cause just by driving my car I had a really good idea that 4th was shorter than my 8's. Also seeing people swapping out the 9's 4th gear out for a 8's gave me a idea as well.

1st, 2nd, and 3rd all feel the same to me, but lastnight doing some spirited driving, I noticed I shifted out of 4th really soon. Anyone know the reason for the gear change?

Sup man? Nice meeting you lastnight. We'll have to get together sometime with some other local EVO owners. Car looked nice lastnight. I love that color.
