lots of noob questions. intake bov ect.

let me just make this shot and to the point.

-intakes, do intakes really help the car or dose it just lose power? i have herd that air intake kits can cause the car to lose power unless you are getting a tune? (if this is so i am just going to get a k&n air filter.)

-boost controller, what manual boost controller would anyone recommend and how much boost can i safely run?

-blow off valves, what are the advantages and disadvantages of having one?

I myself am now ASE certified mechanic but having intake and exhaust on a turbo car especially a evo makes a hell of a difference. If you want the stock by pass vavle is ok until it breaks which is likely to happen to make sure you go with a diverter valve from say greddy or ppl use forge alot (i prefer forge) or just get one from a evo 9.

check out the newbie section...but for some quick answers...
1. Intake will make your car run pretty crappy unless you get a tune so just stick with a K&N drop it filter.
2. For a MBC check out the Forge unit it's around $80 and works very well.
3. Don't touch your BOV unless your upgrading your plastic one to the metal stock Evo IX BOV.
Honestly, the biggest gain you will see on the car is from getting a TBE, turbo back exhaust, and then when you get some more cash saved up get a tune.

you'll need a tune if you go with an intake, if you buy the k&n air filter and adapter you dont NEED a tune, but it'd still be better

^^^he was right with the diverter valve, because the air needs to be recirculated to the intake instead of vented to the atmosphere,

and idk about the boost controller, but I THINK you have to have the supporting mods and a tune to safely turn up the boost (not sure though)

Wow, surprised no one mentioned a fuel pump. Thats gotta be one of the first things you gotta get if you up the boost. And yes please do the exhaust first along w/a downpipe. K&N drop in, forge mbc, and just the stock evo IX dv will work fine. And don't forget a tune. You should contact Mellon on the boards for a tune if you're interested. There's plenty of tuners on the board that could help you out.

I got my dp,intake, and exhaust around the same time. After I got the HFC it helped a bit because the car was not choking as much.Got the boost controller later and it made a world of difference.I would say go with the dp and exhaust for now.Good luck!

^^Haha, yeah, i was planning on getting my maps done w/Mellon this year, but put my money into the house instead. We both have similar mods and wanted to try another tuner. I'm going to wait till i get my Aquamist installed next year to get some more tuning done, this time w/Mellon. Don't get me wrong, John is a stand up guy, loved his tune, but want to try something new, plus Mellon has some awesome pricing. Hope the best for you guys,

you will want to get a high flow cat. dont leave the stock cat in. that will leave alot of resistence. And as everyone else has said, a tune with increased boost is absolutely neccassary to make power. Then get some cams and ICP
