Wiring question for SAFC-II

Follow the SAFC II wiring diagram. The diagram M3-a is the correct pin out for our EVO. The wiring diagram is available at www.apexi-usa.com/documentation.asp
Here is the correct pin out.
Power (red)----pin 25
ground (brown)----pin 26 (closer to ECU)
ground (black)-----pin 26 (away from ECU)
RPM (green)-----pin 58
TPS (grey)------pin 84
Air flow signal out (pink)----pin 90 (closer to ECU)
Air flow signal in (orange)------pin 90 (away from ECU)
Knock sensor (purple)------pin 78
Note : Ground the SAFC II as listed above. Do not combine both ground point. Tap the brown wire closer to ECU and Tap the black wire away from ECU.

The most common mistake many people make is reading the connector's pin# wrong.. you have to look at it from the back (Where the wires come out) and not the front.. otherwise you'll pick the wrong pin..
The second most common mistake is grounding..
The third most common mistake is the air flow signal wires get reversed..

Thanks for the input fellas, it makes more sense now, heh.
From the pic and your descriptions I see what it means by "closer to the ecu" and "further from ecu" for the ground and Airflow wires. Also the diff between cutting and splicing/tapping.
The airflow wire is the only one cut, while the rest are spiced, right?
Finally, should it be 2cyl or 4cyl?
Can't wait for my Fields harness!

The diagram M-3a look to be the part of the field harness that is a solid plastic piece and not the 4 seperate pieces that go into the ecu correct? Also to read the correct pins I am looking at what? The inner part where the pins are or the outter part where the wires come from? I have read you are reading the outter part but the diagram sure looks like the inner part... Can anyone please clear that up with me? Thanks! My understanding is you read the part that is 1 big plastic piece that your current ecu wires plug into, and you also read the pins from the back of the big single connector where the wires come from. Am I correct?

Can someone please help me, I have a 1997 Wrx and have just got hold of a SAFC II looking through the wiring manual there are a couple of things I am not sure of like when it is fitted will the car run without making changers to settings as Iwas hoping to fit it then drive it to the the tuner, What else do I need to chane in the intial setting and what are the values, Please help!
