Has anyone swapped from an ACD TC to a NON ACD?

Just wondering if anyone has and if it's advisable to do so mainly for drag racing.

If so what's needed to be done.

From: 900 pounds lighter than a X.
Hey pat yes I have an 05'RS and out with the ACD and in with the shep transfer case upgraded of course. And a must for drag racing. That's when the real fun begins get a fully built Bushwacker tranny and a tilton clutch to!!Clutch only weighs 16.3 pounds with flywheel!!
As soon as I get my carbon fiber driveshaft in Buschur gonna do a back to back comparo on the dyno so we'll see what it can do for us besides save alotta weight and save the rear to from disaster.
I can say though I put the stocker through 3 different turbo upgrades and it held up but got really sloppy and whined hard at the end.Never broke it,but did see many 03-04 cases liquidfied in a hurry.Good luck.

Thanks for the info guys....that's really good to hear for my car as well as 1 of our road race/time attack cars as well

Would you guys mind sharing what is involved w/ removing it as far as the electronics, reservoir, etc in order to be able to possibly sell to recoupe some money.

Maybe a link if you happen to have one.

I'll be speaking w/ Shep later today..............as well as John at CCW (I don't wana be left out of the fun U2SLO & D. Bushur lol)

So why the switch from ACD to non? I was under the impression ACD was better for acceleration, etc.

What do you have to do to switch. Do you literally just install the 03-04 spec TC and just remove all ACD lines and the fluid holder in the engine bay? Nothing else?

I am not seeing a benefit to this, I was under the impression the 05+ cars had stronger drivetrains than their previous models.

Well it would only be a benefit if the TC you were replacing your 05-06 one with was just as strong (such as a built one by Shep).

Bump for some answers...

Im am about to purchase the Cyber Evo/ Voltex front end...and was told that I have to remove the ACD.

Why would you have to?

I would like to know the benefits as well? I don't think I've ever heard of this being a weak link or people breaking the ACD from shear power or tq? I've also never heard of it interfering with putting the power down. If anything, I thought it ASSISTED in putting the power down? Can't Shep build an ACD case just as well as a non-ACD case?
