When is it time to get intercooler?

If you have a stock car or maybe lightly modded like an exhaust and tune would it be beneficial to get an intercooler?

I was thinking if you boost your car above stock then maybe it is beneficial.

I would say stick with the stock one... unless you do cams, mbc, fuel pump, and re-flash.

I don't think you'll need an upgraded intercooler until you upgrade your turbo. Even then it depends on the size of the turbo. 50 trim, GT30 or larger then yes.

You'll get HP gains with an intercooler upgrade with stock turbo, but it isn't necessary. If you're planning on staying with stock turbo, upgrading the intercooler piping would probably be the better choice.

It's only really beneficial to upgrade an intercooler if you want to battle heat soak. On a close to stock car, it really isnt that beneficial.

If you are in a hot climate or are planning on upgrading your turbo then upgrading the FMIC is a good idea.

Thanks for the input. Maybe I'll go for intercooler piping for now.

I was planning to upgrade turbo but nothing big, evo9 Mg-Ti or FPGreen.

you live in California... I would upgrade it... because of the extreme temp in the summer... unless you don't drive it in the summer..

My opinion is upgrade licp and ic (nothing too huge) when u pass 325-330whp. Delay ic upgrade if in cooler climate

I would stay with the stock intercooler even with the green i am doing over 400whp at the moment on my stock intercooler and it has done a good job at getting me cool enough air to run repeated 11 second passes in florida's summer this year and remains on the car running the same 11s as earlyier in the year.

um, yeah, stock IC on the Green here also.

I personally don't see higher dyno numbers with aftermarket FMIC's as compared to my car with same mods on stock IC.

IMHO, you will mostly just see improved consistency in repeated runs/laps due to decreased heat soak with an aftermarket FMIC...

only reason I got my fmic is because AZ heat soaks everything and it sucks... don't see much in the way of performance, but my temps have dropped

Nothing wrong with the stock one, until several thousnad miles of use without a oil catch (or with any IC in that case). The sucker gets clogged with oil, dirt, cig butts, ect. That reminds me - I need to clean it again. Never underestimate the potential of the oem IC though, especially if your a cheap *** like me
