So whats the downside aside from a larger carbon footprint?

Upside aside from weight?

Yea, its a pretty big pain. I did it when I took my intake Mani off while I also had my trans out at the same time, so it was pretty easy for me.

You might be able to get to that stuff from on top but I can't say for sure.

Reduced fuel efficiency (very slightly, wont pass emissions)

Upside aside from weight?
Less complicated and fewer parts to go wrong.
People often have the EGR lines blow off of have an EGR solenoid malfunction.

Not to go off-topic - Does one need to undo intake manifold from under the car or can it gotten to from up top?

My bet would be that you have to go under the car to get off a couple of the bolts. Probably the ones on the intake mani bracket are best accessed from underneath. Other than that I would say a whole bunch of swivel sockets and wrenches and some clever maneuvering and you should be fine.

Overall it was pretty easy for me since the trans was out but I have heard that otherwise it can be a pretty huge pain.

Will doing this cause a code to be thrown? Or can you just remove? Thankx

It will throw a code. But you can disable the EGR test so no light comes on but you will still not pass emissions.

If you want to know how to disable EGR then look at Mr. Freds post about installing a JDM Map sensor in the ECU Flash section.

what dose a egr do any ways

Plus coats your intake mainfold with black soot! Should also in theory cool your intake charge ever so slightly due no hot exhaust being reburned.

The green is the EVAP canister solenoid. While your under there I figured you might want to take that off as well.

You can even take off the large black intake manifold bracket if you so desire. That will save another 1-2 lbs.
Can someone update with photos of solenoids I have to pull out when installing EGR block-out plate?
